Advertisement Posted October 17, 2007 Posted October 17, 2007 Hi charlesphoto99, Take a look here Leica M8 is a cheap and plasticky camera!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
guy Posted October 17, 2007 Share #42 Posted October 17, 2007 A while back it became apparent that I'm basically hopelessly addicted to kit. Many, many kinds of kit. And so rather than have to endure a kind of endless tape loop of "are you sure you need another guitar / camera / keyboard / Macintosh / whatever", my gal and I struck what we refer to as the Kit Accord of 2003. Assuming bills are paid and kiddies are clothed, the Accord allocates 5% of both our earnings to a separate fund (I'm not kidding – we honestly do this) which is then split equally between us. We can each draw on our half of the kit fund at any time for any purpose with a no-guilt guarantee from our partner. The only problem with this is that, because I relentlessly spend my half on new guitars / cameras / keyboards / Macintoshes, I'm broke while my gal has racked up some several thousands of quid. It's hugely frustrating. She doesn't seem to want to do anything with it. Sometimes she goes for an aromatherapy massage and occasionally she talks about getting a canoe so she can paddle down the Cherwell to work, but so far even that is all mouth and no trousers, as we say. So I have to sit here with £17.62 in my Kit Fund which frankly gets me NO NEARER a 28mm Summicron, while she's working towards being able to buy her own small south-American country... johnastovall Posted October 17, 2007 Share #43 Posted October 17, 2007 My wife knows Leica but I've been shooting an R-D1 until I got the M8. I've had it two weeks and just used it not mentioning it was new. Yesterday It was at my desk with the R-D1. the M8 and a IIIG I was packing to send to Sherry for a CLA with some LTM lenses. She looked the M8 for a minute and said, "Couldn't you just wait to get the old one fixed rather than buying another old camera to shoot." I think she thinks all the CV lenses I've been getting from CameraQuest are for the 5D....
TEBnewyork Posted October 17, 2007 Share #44 Posted October 17, 2007 Perhaps they are waiting for an M9... Most (not all, but most) women I know want a tool that works (much like an Apple computer), and don't have a lot of patience with trying to fix a manufacturer's quirks. Guys will put up with a lot for a pretty face, but women want something that will be there, consistently and reliably. Stereotyping? Sure. But stereotyping based on lots of observation. LOL - I'm one of those women who didn't wait for the M9 single so no explanations to anyone on price. Why didn't I wait.....My D2 had already been in the shop for two months! Yes, all of my macs just work :-D.
