Leica M8 is a cheap and plasticky camera!

Well, my M8 and Elmarit 24 Asph have been with me for 2 weeks. And I have been a happy shooter since then except for ISO higher than 640 which I find still disturbing. I take care of them very carefully like a baby. My wife asked me, "is it your new camera?". "Yes" I replied and quickly added "it is Leica, cheap and plastic made good for our kids portraits because it is light compare to my Sony ALpha and other Minolta lenses". She nodded and happy after seeing the pics of my kids taken with it.

During Moslem festive of Eid El Fitr, as usual we go to many family gatherings. Lucky for me, nobody knows about Leica. One of my family asked me, "It is a Pentax". I said "Yes, similar to Pentax". He asked me because of the silver look of my M8 reminded him to the old model of Pentax.

I only scare to my brother who is a long time Canon and Mamiya user. So, I send sms to him before we meet not to mention anything about my new camera. He agreed, thinking that perhaps I have just purchased a full frame body of Nikon or Canon. When we meet, he could not believe himself and told me this camera is beyond his dream and we talk like whispering each other so nobody can take notice.

Well, someday I will tell my wife but for this time being I am a big liar, a serious Leica liar.

BEWARE!!!

THIS THREAD IS A PLOY BY OUR SPOUSES AND HALVES TO FIND OUT WHAT WE ARE UP TO, BEHIND THEIR BACK!

DO NOT GIVE OUT ANY INFORMATION THAT MIGHT REVEAL YOUR IDENTITY AND EXPOSE YOURSELVES (actually... forget you) YOUR M8 TO THE IRE THAT WILL FOLLOW!

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

You know what! My wife likes to organize everything. She collects all of my lens boxes in one place except my M8 and Elmarit original boxes, which I store them in my office! Leica boxes are beautiful and they can tell her these are different stuff.

ANyway, I miss a beatiful moment today in one family reunion. My twins sat together on a buggy car with a beautiful pose. My wife asked me to take pics because I carried the M8 in my Lowepro bag. I was just silent and ignore her call because her cousin stood next to her carrying his 40D proudly. I didn't him to shout "hey you have a Leica!" in front everybody including my mother in law. I prefer not to shoot and thinking hard to find excuses. Finally I got a good one, "the battery is dead so I can't take the pics". Oh well!

Is it only here, or it is the same everywhere?

Once you buy something and wife knows the cost, there is always the answer: Cool!...So I could now also buy the xxxxx that I always wanted? (xxxxx= curtains/new kitchen/dress/diamond ring/Rolex, you name it)

So, practically you always have to double (at least) the value of your lust... :(

This thread is cool. Well I told my wife that I am eyeing for a Leica, and told her the price tag.. surprisingly she said "Go for it"... for a moment I thought my ears were playing tricks on me. Well, I still have yet to get the camera, and I wonder what she'll say next when I really get it. :)

I thought I have successfully concealed the actual cost until I was forced to add the M8 to our insurance policy which my wife manages. My only way out was to point out how "lucky" I was to make the purchase before the last price increase. "Just look how much money we saved, dear".
