johnastovall Posted October 12, 2007 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) How's the 50/1.5 Aspherical Nokton on the M8? Sean's review looks good and I'm want a 50 to shoot until I get my old LTM 50/2.0 'Cron back from Sherry with the IIIG. Also do I really need to worry about coding on 50's and over if I'm using a cut filter?
Advertisement Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 Hi johnastovall, Take a look here 50/1.5 Aspherical Nokton on the M8?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pklein Posted October 12, 2007 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2007 Sean Reid loves his, shoots with it a lot professionally. He has some examples on his subscription site, ReidReviews.com. I have one. I've shot it a lot with film as my fast 50. I've tested it on the M8, but no "real photos" yet. It has a very slight backwards focus shift, nothing major, less than my 35/1.4 asph which I usually can ignore in practical shooting. The main thing that some people don't like about the Nokton is that nearby out of focus highlights can look a little weird, and the bokeh is wiry. No, you don't need to code 50mm and longer lenses, unless you want the lens data in your EXIF file. --Peter

Also do I really need to worry about coding on 50's and over if I'm using a cut filter? Hi Jonn. I've got the Nokton and it doesn't need coding. I use a B&W IR cut filter. I find this lens is fine for low light situations. Here are some pictures (BW) that are mostly done with the 50mm nokton OUDSHOORN Regards, Etienne

Irakly Shanidze Posted October 13, 2007 Share #7 Posted October 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) it's a good lens. in my opinion, it lacks color punch of the 50mm summilux, but overall impression is more than favourable. i am very far away from my main computer, so cannot post any examples. the only thing that i do not like is how bulky it is as opposed to the first summilux (i use that one for comparison because their barrels look remarkably similar). Cheers, Sean ...and here an example of the bokeh, which is very pleasant indeed. The last one is a 100 percent crop revealing the resolution of the lens (al files converted using lightroom).
