Clive G. Posted December 12, 2022 Share #1 Posted December 12, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) Has anyone ever had this happen to their (2 years old) Q2? Photographing wedding felt camera hanging from one shoulder, luckily caught it before it fell to ground. Never had this happen to any other camera I have ever owned. Am relatively gentle on my equipment - I certainly don't swing around by strap so this has shaken my faith in the integrity of the Q2. Screws are not stripped. Leica repairing, but scary! Advertisement Posted December 12, 2022 Posted December 12, 2022 Hi Clive G., Take a look here Q2 Strap connection point failure?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted December 12, 2022 Share #2 Posted December 12, 2022 It has happened before - Leica will fix it (and apply Locktite this time)
LocalHero1953 Posted December 12, 2022 Share #3 Posted December 12, 2022 Yes, there are reports on the forum - a rare defect associated with the Q2. It shouldn't happen, of course. I check mine every now and then; it has a wrist strap, but I rarely carry it by that alone - it's just my second line of safety.
darylgo Posted December 12, 2022 Share #4 Posted December 12, 2022 @Clive G. Good catch and welcome to the forum. I'm wondering about Leica's repair policy when this happens and the victim is less adept. @LocalHero1953 Is there a special way to check these short of wiggling? Not that I know of - I just try to wiggle it (technical term - there's probably an ISO standard for it somewhere).

Wiggle - torque? or better: jiggle, wriggle, twitch, flutter, shimmy, joggle, wag, wobble, shake, twist, squirm, writhe, wave, quiver, jerk, bobble, waggle 😁

This is pretty much equivalent to a wheel falling off a moving Volvo...and I don't foresee such thing happening Poor job Leica

William Cook Posted December 13, 2022 Share #10 Posted December 13, 2022 I had the same thing happen to a work Panasonic G1 that I was carrying with a wrist strap. The camera bounced on the ground but didn’t even suffer a scratch. I use a handstrap on my Q2M, you better believe I’ll be checking it!

viramati Posted December 15, 2022 Share #12 Posted December 15, 2022 Happened to mine earlier this year after 6 months or so of use. Luckily I caught it before it hit the the ground and Leica Mayfair repaired in a few days.

thierry40 Posted December 18, 2022 Share #14 Posted December 18, 2022 it happened to me after 6 months use (see other topic), fortunately the camera did not fall on the ground ! dealer got a replacement q2 for me from Leica, repair took approx 8 weeks (summer time), I did not pay a penny frightening though ! now I wonder if the repaired cameras had any second similar issue anytime ? best
