sdk Posted December 13, 2022 Share #21 Posted December 13, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I am using an OWC UHS-II SD card on my M11 and so far I have had no problems with it. I have shot hundreds of photos on it, and just used it to update firmware to 1.6.0 with no issues. Transfer is fast with a UHS-II reader. Perhaps it's Sony's cards, rather than the UHS-II standard that has caused some users problems? I had a Sony Tough UHS-II card a couple of years ago that was not working properly on my Nikon D850. All the NEF photos had banding in the files, but fortunately I was mirroring captures to the CFExpress B card, which was fine. I have not bought any Sony memory card since then. Advertisement Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 Hi sdk, Take a look here M11 with UHS-II vs UHS-I memory cards. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Masa Posted December 15, 2022 Share #22 Posted December 15, 2022 I have no freezing experience with Pro-Grade UHD-II 128gb and 256gb on my M11, however some pictures couldn't be recognized with card reader on windows PC. Those pictures remaining in the card and could be seen on the M11 body then salvaged via Leica FOTOS app. Both cards have used on SL2 and Q2 long time and no such problem with same card reader and PC settings. I followed most secure format procedure i.e., formatted by SD card formatter supplied by SD Association before use the M11. I switch the card to Sandisk Extreme Pro UHS-I 170mb/s and watching this phenomenon happen again or not.
DenverSteve Posted December 15, 2022 Share #23 Posted December 15, 2022 After decades of professional photography and being one of the first test shooters for Canon CPS when digital started, I've never had a memory card issue. I've had a couple of cards over the years go bad - and they get tossed immediately. There will always be manufacturing issues but that doesn't make them a UHS-1 or UHS-ii issue. I've read of Sony Tough cards causing issues over the years and I've stayed far from them. Otherwise, I use whatever and have never had an issue with any specific card or camera. I format my cards regularly - in camera only - for the camera they are going to be used in. I use Sandisk and Ritz gear because I buy them by the dozen and give them to clients with finished work. I've never had any of my Leicas object to whatever card I use. I'm currently using mostly Ritz Gear cards (attached) without issue. Welcome, dear visitor! CDodkin Posted December 15, 2022 Share #24 Posted December 15, 2022 Too many fake Sandisk cards out there for me to ever trust buying one, from any retailer (online or physical). Even legit retailers have found they have fake Sandisk stock - so you're rolling the dice anytime you buy one. You may well have been using a fake card and not known it. I use Delkin Black UHS-II cards, with no issues. They have serial numbers to register with the manufacturer, which avoids fakes. They have a 48hr replacement warranty if one ever fails (none have ever done so in 5 years daily use) They are a single piece card with the SD card case molded around the internal PCB, avoiding the plastic shell failures of cheaper cards which can damage your SD card slot. For me, buying cheap SD cards for a premium camera is a false economy.
