usccharles Posted October 11, 2007 Author Share #21 Posted October 11, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) just picked mine up today manfrotto 334B really easy to extend/retract. used it tonight with both my M8 and SLR. amazing on the SLR, but alittle difficult with the M8 with the aperture wide open. when you try to focus/recompose, you are kinda off focus when you recompose because the monopod at times 'swings' the camera forward or back and the focus is off. this is alot easier to correct with SLR because you can adjust focus in the view finder after recomposing but you can't really do that with the M8 accurately enough. i'm going to have to play around with it with my M8 to get fully used to it. either way i think its a great tool for low shutter shooting. thanks for all you help!! oh and i got it for 50 dollars. display sample charles Welcome, dear visitor! bradhusick Posted October 11, 2007 Share #22 Posted October 11, 2007 ReallyRightStuff makes a fabulous quick release clamp that's ideal for monopods. Also, remember a good way to use a monopod is to place the foot against the inside of your foot and hold it at an angle (why you need a small ball head). -Brad
peter_n Posted October 12, 2007 Share #23 Posted October 12, 2007 I've a similar setup as Hank's... but use a Manfrotto 676B... In the pic quoted above(from Really Right Stuff) is the RSS B2 Pro clamp. RRS stongly recommends the tilt-swivel head over ball-head, and so would I. I've got a RRS BP-CS plate more or less permanently attached to the M8(great coverage over the lightweight baseplate and access to the baseplate release... and gives the option for alternate strap setup ala the 3-lug M5... works well)... in sum: Manfrotto/Bogen 676B monopod, Manfrotto 3232 tilt-swivel head, RRS B2 Pro clamp and RRS BP-CS is used hiking, etc. hth+rgds, Dave I'm with Dave. An enthusiastic user of a Gitzo tripod, I'm not convinced you need CF for a monopod. I also use the Bogen/Manfrotto 676B monopod with the Bogen/Manfrotto 3232 tilt-swivel head (Manfrotto nr. 234). My Arca-Swiss type clamp is the Markins QS-60 and I use a ClearSight USA Leica M to Arca clamp plate on the M7. This small, light and inexpensive combo works really well.
