However, I wonder just how many people are willing to pay that kind of money for a lens. At least the new retail prices help the used market value. I notice it is the Americans here, citizens of 'the richest country in the world', that is complaining the most. But it is hardly Leica's fault that the US$ has halved it's value in less than 10 years compared to European currencies. That's their own fault. Here in Norway this piece of equipment costs 25% more, sales tax included. 50% more with the viewfinder. The tax? That's how we cover public services like a decent governmental budget economy as well as public services like health care for all etc. Totally, it's cheap. The envelope with the passport card also came today. Did some quick snaps today with no filter (color shot) and some with an IR trans filter (the more or less monochrome self-portrait shot) because it is about to cloud up and rain as warmer weather approaches. Wow, what detail in the corners!! Boths shots at 16mm I have since cleaned the sensor - note the obvious dust bug near the lower edge (H format). Has the Euro price also gone up or is the increase all due to the nosedive of the US$ (Thank you, George)? Welcome, dear visitor! carstenw Posted October 11, 2007 Share #30 Posted October 11, 2007 I am guessing that the price rise is due to the fall of the dollar, which is very hard on many European companies, as the States is a very large consumer market, larger than half of all of Europe combined. On the other hand, the European prices are also going up, probably because Leica sales would fall off the edge of a cliff if the States had to carry the higher cost alone.
