I'm interested in sending the mount to John Milich for coding. Just want to make sure that there isn't something about the mount that's more critical of difficult to deal with than other lenses. If it is, maybe I'll wait and send it to Leica. If not, I'd just as soon send it to John. My 'Lux Asph is relatively recent, and it behaves exactly as described in LFI--focusing spot on at f/1.4 and f/2, with a bit of focus shift to the rear at f/2.8-5.6. So I don't think it would benefit from adjustment at Leica (somebody correct me if I'm wrong). John is a lot faster --Peter Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

They one thing i would worry about is any shims that maybe in there when leica does the calibration but not so sure about this. Since you have a issue anyway it maybe more cost effective and smarter and just send it to leica for the coding because they put a new mount on it and calibrate it anyway as part of the coding. When you factor in the cost of the postage, and the chance that the lens will be out of calibration when the mount is refitted, there isn't enough difference between the two to make sending it to John worthwhile IMHO. Leica replaces the mount, and it has happened to, I think, at least two members that a perfect lens without the focus shifting problem came back from Leica with a problem. The way that John Milich works is that you remove the mount from the lens and send it to him. He mills the slots and sends you the mount back. You paint the black and white dots, then install the mount back on the lens. Many people have reported great success with this method. My question was whether it's safe to do this with the 35/1.4 Summilux ASPH, or if there's something special or extra critical about it (as opposed to, say a 50/2 Summicron) that means only Leica should touch the lens. As Carsten noted, Leica may be a bit overworked these days, and there have been reports of lenses coming back less well adjusted than before. --Peter Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
