It was a genuine question. How would one go „scientifically“ after doing that what you did (thanks by the way) what’s the point of referenxe to set up the cameras? I’m here to learn, not to troll

No offence mend, sorry.

The simplest way would be to have the exact same image section and to be 100% coplanar.

The Problem in this particular test is that we do not know if the cropped 35mm are really 35mm and if the apo-summicron do really have 35 and not 34 or 36mm.

So the first step would be to evaluate the real focal length, which again is a tricky one, as especially with internal focus systems the focal length is changing with focusing from close to far.
Different lenses will behave differently. Therefore a really scientific test were all variables are equalised is really complicated. Hence, from a scientific point of view most tests from our fellow YouTubers and lens-gurus are rubbish. Does this mean they are worthless? Of course not! They still tell you a lot and can give some worthy information and guidance. One should just take all with a grain of salt …. and of course, to test by yourself ;)

So here we are again: I changed my mind. Again.

Last autumn I sold my m10 and bought a Q2. Some months later I bought a m10m as they were getting scarce due to m11m being around the corner.

The Q is great, though I hardly use 28mm, it’s mostly set on 50mm. It’s with me every day and that is the problem: the m stays at home, only taken out on special occasions. It’s too expensive to stay at home.

Advantage of the Q is weather sealing and macro. If I want to shoot in rain or snow, I have a SL. For summer showers and chances of being soaked while walking around with a m, I guess a small plastic bag in my pocket will prevent disaster…

Macro, I hardly do, except for food photography in a restaurant, but this can be done with a phone as well as no one really cares actually what I eat 😎

So, the Q goes up for sale, I will buy a 24ish lens for the M and will take the M out daily.

Now, I only hope that I won’t regret my move. Afterall, it is the second time I bought a Q. Silly me.

You’re not the only one. Of course now I want the Q3!  🤦‍♂️

latecomer to this thread.. but.. I'm a professional with a Phase One XF system, and an SL2 system.. But my q2 gets the most BY FAR. Granted, not necessarily in a work situation (depending the job, of course). I often say i could do all my jobs on a Q2, althought whether I would want to is another story.

I've had far more magazine pages with just my Q2, and cropping down even to 75mm is totally fine. I had a designer ask for more resolution recently thinking I hadn't sent the full file, so I just opened it up in Photoshop and did the AI enlarging thing and it is absolutely fine. It was of the gnarly old hands of an elderly tv chef personality who's about to die.. So I was sitting on a couch opposite him while the journo was interviewing.. I couldn't exactly leap up and say "I must be at 50mm otherwise this image will be useless!", could I? I think what often gets missed, is that whatever the gear, if it allows you go get good pictures.. who cares if you're cropping? Who cares if it's not 100% sharp or whatever? If the emotional content is there, and it's an arresting image, then it's a good picture.

I like to think about the fact that when I started shooting professionally I was using the Canon 5dmki. That was a 12 megapixel camera. I had plenty of pictures in print, I had plenty of pictures printed and framed on walls, and I captured plenty of moments that will never be repeated, and it was fine. The Q2 at 75mm, sure it's what, 8 mp or something? I would argue that it still looks better than the 5dmki, and it's smaller, sexier, and i think has better colours etc etc. And if you need more, sure, upres it, it'll be fine. Just go take some good pictures, eh?

For reference, here's the picture of the guys hands. Please keep in mind that it's in the context of a layout, and to you nerds who are going to pixel peep and say it's no good, save it.. i don't care. What's important is that it's a guy who millions of Australians grew up with on TV, and he's in his twilight years.. The editor said she cried when she saw it.. In my mind, this is more important than all the other bullshit.

Anyhoo, my two cents.

Hi. Love a lot of your photos. Really great stuff. What flash(es) are you using? Thanks!

So, an update. The Q2 is still up for sale, and meanwhile a 24mm for the m has been bought.

The m is my perfect b/w setup.

Recently some threads here made me asking myself which kind of camera I really do enjoy? With film I had the contax g1 and a rolleiflex.

Looking from the waist is really a different view, and yes, one could kneel, but a WLF is different.

I thought about the h2d: it has a flipscreen, but then, the 907x might be a better option.

However, somehow, q3 start to make sense to me: the flipscreen could work for wlf, finally different formats (square) and really portable.

I still don’t like 28mm, in 2:3 format. On 1:1 I might make it work.
