I had my shipment with Leica UV/IR filters yesterday, or I had one filter (43mm) while the other i ordered (55mm) appears to be out of stock.

On the export documents, country of manufacture of the filters listed as Japan.

Any idea who actually makes them?

The first filters come form B+W, but doesnt work, so Leica never shipped them and ordered filters from Hoya

Interesting. Are you in effect saying that filters from B + W do not work?

The Leica brand are really only needed on the 21mm and wider lenses. The B+W creates too much of a cyan cast in the corners of the super wide angles.

I am like steve and use B+W filters on all my lenses, except the WATE, which has the Leica filter.

I am using Leica filters for my 21mm and 28mm. The other 4 lenses have either a B+W or even a 55mm Heliopan. I did get cyan shifts on my 21mm in the far corners using the Heliopan :( before I finally got my 55mm from Leica. The Heliopan is now on my 90mm Summicron with no ill-effect, thank you. The IR filtering effect of the Heliopan and to a certain degree on the B+W appears to be stronger than that of the Leica ones. That much actually that it creates the cyan shifts in wide angle lenses. See Sean's review on the various IR filters.

I'm having great luck with B&W.

Leica, however, can't seem to get anything shipped and when they do, they are defective. My silver 43 won't screw on more than half a turn on any lenses. On a $5500 camera to get service this bad is criminal.

Some results from extensive testing... B+W filters work very well but the Leica firmware is tweaked for Leica filters. The difference is noticeable (in some lighting conditions) with 21 and wider (sometimes 24 and wider) lenses and negligible thereafter.

This has nothing to do with the quality of the filters.

This is simply a result of how the corrections are written in the M8 firmware. With 28 and longer lenses, the B+W filters are fine and the Heliopans do fairly well as well.

i can see some cyan corners using E46 B+W filter on my coded 28 summicron, none with my Leica E46. I guess the B+W is designed for totally IR filter free sensor, whereas the M8 has just a very thin IR filter in front of sensor.

Nope, just a difference in how the firmware corrects each.

Cheers,

Sean
