Any Good Shop(s) in Washington DC?

It's been a few years since I have asked this question and I'll be there for a few days again soon.

Are there any good shops in the DC area? (I'll be staying near Arlington but will be in and out of the District and will have a car.) 'Good' to me would include a good selection of new and used Leica gear as well as Cosina/Voigtlander/Zeiss M lenses, various gizmos and gadgets and lots of bags....

Ace Photo in Sterling, Virginia (D.C. Suburb) pretty good shop.

But I usually go to NYC or New Jersey (Bergen County) to shop for gear.

Enjoy your visit!

Actually, Ace Photo moved to Ashburn VA last year. (Not very far from Sterling.) This is about 35 miles west of downtown DC and Arlington so it may be a haul for you. They have lots of bags and a great assortment of all kinds of new and used gear. They are what I fondly remember from my youth as a very cluttered store. (In a good way.)

Ace Photo is one of the few camera stores that I often visit and buy from. They let me test lenses before I buy them.

You might want to go to Pro Photo at 1902 I St NW (downtown, 4 blocks from the White House.) They do repair work for lots of pros in DC and work on and sell Leicas. They often have a lot of used gear and plenty of other stuff. (I don't get down there too often.)

Also Penn Camera has several branches. You'll find lots of bags there but probably not the rest of what you are seeking. Maybe the 840 E St. store would be your best shot.

Sorry to sound cynical, but after living in the NoVA area for 24 years the best advice I can offer regarding Leica gear is to point the car north and drive to Manhattan. Or just stay put and call Ken Hansen and tell him what you're after.

Agree with Jim - The one really good Leica store closed years ago. Those that remain have partial inventories and clerks who dfo not know the difference between a rangefinder and SLR.

Maybe that's being too cynical; however, only the very large and dedicated stores can afford to stock Leica bodies, lenses and accessories. Even then, their "retail" prices sometimes don't agree with the B&H quotes.

I still buy from B&H and Ken.
