gesper Posted October 2, 2007 Author Share #21 Posted October 2, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes I sent it to someone in partcular and he was out of the office, my screw up though. Yes it was too late Guy, given all the support you have given Leica over the last year, I can't believe they wouldn't make an exception. Especially since it sounds like it was because someone on there end wasn't around. The facts are that you were an early adopter and "earned" the right to the discount. c6gowin Posted October 3, 2007 Share #26 Posted October 3, 2007 Guy, I am sorry you missed out on the deal, but I know you will end up getting a Noctilux if you decide you want or need it bad enough. Remember, I have seen inside your camera bag. LOL

Eoin Posted October 3, 2007 Share #29 Posted October 3, 2007 At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I'm expecting mine back today via DHL from it's 2nd trip to Solms for backfocusing. Apparently the quality management were able to identify the problem the workshop were supposed to and said they fixed on the first visit. So we'll see, fingers crossed, I've been missing my M8 for about 7 weeks in total between the 2 trips. I hope the rest of you have better luck with your Noctiluxes. It's been a long wait for sure, I hope it's not prolonged with return visits.
marknorton Posted October 3, 2007 Share #30 Posted October 3, 2007 0398xxxx Need more resolution! I bought mine in September 2006 and it too was 0398xxxx, mine was actually 0398476x. So, while M8 camera serial nos are all over the place, maybe we can estimate how many Nocti's are coming out....

Are you saying they could find no problem with it on the second visit?
tjv Posted October 3, 2007 Share #32 Posted October 3, 2007 I ordered mine in Mid Feb and have not received it yet. I got told that I would have it after the 29th, which is when a shipment is departing Germany south bound. I did not order it as part of the 30% off scheme. Eoin Posted October 3, 2007 Share #33 Posted October 3, 2007 Eoin, not sure I understand your post. Are you saying they could find no problem with it on the second visit? No Mark, It was sent in the first time for back focus along with the M8 & sample images showing eyes out of focus ears in focus. It was returned after adjustment showing very slight improvement @ f:/1 but from f:/1.4 to f:/5.6 everything was still back focused by 4-6 inches. I contacted Leica again with more sample images and I was told the workshop had checked the lens and were satisfied focus was correct after adjustment before they sent it back to me.. Andrea was obviously not impressed with the images and passed them along to a quality manager who requested the lens & M8 be returned once again for examination. I was later informed that the lens would need further adjustment and now I'm waiting for DHL to arrive sometime today. I'll let you know if they sorted the problem or if I will have to return it again for a third time to either replace it or refund . It does not make sense that a lens in is effect unusable between f:/1.4 to f:/5.6 with the rangefinder, requiring a guess as to where real focus lies. I have made it clear to leica that I expect this lens to preform at all apertures between 2 - 4 meters. If it's a specific problem with the M8 and Nocti combination well then so be it. I asked them to consider exchanging the lens for a 50 Asph if they can't make it preform. It's still brand new IMO, I only tested it for a day then contacted leica about the issues, it's spent most of it's 2 month life either sitting in the workshop or traveling between Dublin and Solms. I don't particularly want to loose the Noctilux, but then again I don't want to have to deal with issues such as guessing exact focus with one specific lens. Guest Olof Posted October 3, 2007 Share #34 Posted October 3, 2007 My 30% Noctilux came yesterday. My order was received by Solms on April 4th - almost 6 months, but 1 month sooner than gepser's order. Perhaps they come in batches. I would be much happier if I wasn't out of town with work and didn't have to wait a few more days to get home to it. Regardless, I am very excited to receive the lens. My kit is almost complete (for now). So does that mean that they still produce this lens ? I have heared that they only had a stock from ELCAN, end never produced new ones (because of a special glas, they dont get anymore)
marknorton Posted October 3, 2007 Share #35 Posted October 3, 2007 Eoin, I'll be interested to hear how it is. Mine is coming back from its second trip to Solms to correct problems in the focussing mount - it was impossible to minutely adjust the focussing ring - it kept sticking. So far, the jury is still out for me with this lens. Whereas I "clicked" instantly with the 75/1.4 and 90/2, this lens remains a real challenge. It would be interesting to know what the attitude to this lens is within Leica. Hassle would be my guess and I expect the overriding requirement for the Summarits is "ship and forget". It just is not good business to have all this lens adjustment stuff clogging up the service channel.

marknorton Posted October 4, 2007 Share #38 Posted October 4, 2007 Interesting, something like $2.5m at retail, 10 a week, 2 a day... Question is, is my lens a morning lens or an afternoon lens? Based on experience to date, I can confidently predict it was made on a Friday afternoon.
leicabug Posted October 4, 2007 Share #39 Posted October 4, 2007 Likely to be a record year for Leica in terms of the number of Noctilux sold.
woodyspedden Posted October 5, 2007 Share #40 Posted October 5, 2007 I ordered my WATE with finder in June and received the lens a month ago. The really good part was that the cost (in Canada, $CDN) was $2832 all taxes and shipping included. A very good price. Henning Bought my M8 in early Nov 2006 but waited until March of 2007 to order the 30a% discount WATE lens. Just received it and am super happy with the results. I used one from the Leica Akademie when on the Leica Porsche trip in June and was super happy with the results. I think this lens is a must for lanscape fine arts photogs using the M8 so I am now a very happy camper indeed.
