... so in the end it should be alright.

I'd find that very comforting know! And never let yourself go astry from buying your next LEICA!

ALles wird gut!

It's possible having a bad battery but I don't like the sound of this. i would ask for a replacement since it is only two weeks old from your dealer

How can you tell that? My first M8 purchased in Dec. 2006, had a 319xxxx serial number. It had three SDS incidents, each time requiring a trip back to Solms before they finally replaced the entire camera.

Brent, I have never heard of a 319xxxx in 2006, would you please check again the serial number?

This may have been discussed earlier - but I took the M8 out today for a few test shots. All went well, photos downloaded and no problems.

Now I wanted to test out another lens - but the camera appears to be stone dead. No response of any kind.

Anyone has any tricks to make it come back to life?

Ivar, I would take out the battery and let the camera sit for 3-4 days. This will cause an internal reset. The fact that this happened right after you had been downloading images tells me something may have happened to your SD card. I had the same thing happen when I yanked my SD card from the reader during a firmwear upgrade. I had hosed up the SD card.

Hope you get your camera working again quickly!

That was the serial number on my camera, which has since been replaced. In fact, the full number was 3192593. My insurance records do bear out that this was my number. The camera was purchased in December 2006 from a German dealer, however I did not take delivery until January 2007. Leica have already stated that serial numbers do not indicate when the M8 was made. The hot shoes with the numbers are simply grabbed from a large container as the cameras are assembled.

I emailed Leica, and had a reply very soon from the M8 support team.

Usual apologies and a reassurance that if I send the camera over, they will repair it with minimum delay.

I feel good about being contacted so quickly.
