ibogost Posted September 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone know what happened to Mel's Camera, a Leica dealer in Nevada? A number of weeks ago I noticed that their website was just a blank white page. It successfully loads -- but it's just a blank page. http://www.melscamera.com

ibogost Posted September 25, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted September 25, 2007 Maybe the website just moved. Weird. Marc is great, this is an undercelebrated dealer.
leicabug Posted September 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 25, 2007 Never dealt with the son but the dad Mel was a great Leica guy with a wealth of Leica information. Would have definitely bought M8 from Mel if he was still alive. Miss Mel and his service a great deal.
Guest tummydoc Posted September 26, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 26, 2007 The late Mel Levy was a fine gentleman and a true afficionado of all things Leica. He often had the most ecclectic list of items a collector could only drool over...because the prices were most often insanely out of touch with market reality. I often suspected Mel really used some of those mint NOS rarities as window-dressing, and cared less if he sold them. I know nothing about Marc other than Mel spoke well of him. mlevy Posted March 28, 2008 Share #7 Posted March 28, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Due to serious health problems and major surgery this past January I had to shut down mels camera for good. It really wasn't working out all that great anyways. If i were running it as a side business like my father then it would be ok but i tried to run this as a full time business and Leica could not deliver enough products to keep me in business. How many times do you have to ask for help before you give up and move on to something else. If anyone is interested I am selling off all my inventory at below my cost.
stuny Posted March 28, 2008 Share #8 Posted March 28, 2008 Mark - I'm sorry to read of your difficulties. You might want to list the items you want to sell in the "Buy & sell" section of this Forum. We have 10s of thousands of members registered.
Guest rweisz Posted March 28, 2008 Share #9 Posted March 28, 2008 Leica could not deliver enough products to keep me in business. How many times do you have to ask for help before you give up and move on to something else. Sad. Leica seems to think blaming and firing there CEO will cure all there ills. Maybe they should look and listen a little farther from Solms, eh? Still, between B&H, Adorama, Photovillage, Tamarkin (who closed there NY store), and Popflash (all of the above who sell other brands besides Leica BTW) not to mention the remaining local Leica dealers who get the people who don't want to buy mailorder, I can't imagine there is that much more demand to support a full-time Leica-selling business. Jim Kehl and Don Chadderton are gone, so is that gal in Denver, Kitty or something.
mlevy Posted March 28, 2008 Share #10 Posted March 28, 2008 They promised me the world if i reopened my fathers leica business - i forgot who i was dealing with salesman who tell you whatever you need to hear to close the deal. Leica only business cannot survive.
mlevy Posted March 28, 2008 Share #11 Posted March 28, 2008 She apparently racked up a huge leica bill and stopped paying on it that is why she is no longer a dealer.
