sean_reid Posted September 25, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) See: http://rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?p=646592 Voigtlander's new LTM-M adapters have no cutout, just like the older Leitz adapters I started recommending before John started making the LT-M8. John Milich can advise if the following is correct but I believe that one now has two good options for coding LTM lenses for the M8. 1) Buy an LT-M8 adapter (milled with recesses) from John for $150.00 2) Buy a CV Type II adapter for $75 and send to John (or another machinist?) for milling. Cost still $25? The latter is a bit more expensive but less hassle. The latter is a bit of a hassle but saves $50 (minus some shipping costs). Of course, one can also code the new CV adapters with a marker but those marks will rub off over time. Now...let's hope CV keeps a good range of LTM lenses in production. This is a good time for RF photographers. Leica, Zeiss and CV all realize that they are competing for a (albeit slowly) growing market and so we're seeing things like Zeiss offering alternate bayonets, CV making new style adapters and Leica introducing the Summarits. Competition does improve the breed. Cheers, Sean

Paul_S Posted September 25, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 25, 2007 Thanks Sean for sharing. Good to know what's happening in the screw mount and M-mount area.
johnalex141r Posted September 25, 2007 Share #3 Posted September 25, 2007 Hey, I have a third choice! John Milich is not the only one with a couple of bits of metalworking equipment around! Quite easy to silver solder a little tab of brass onto the older voigtlander lenses, and then use that for milling the dots on. (yes, I have a very accurate vertical mill, an older british one, with digital readout) Without the help of others on this list, I'd never know what dots to colour white or black - so thanks to everyone here. And, I'm one of the newbies who are purchasing M mount lenses; 4 in about 1 month; if there are lots of "me" out there, there's going to be quite the market. The last 2 lenses (ordered today) were a choice - either a Canon Rebel XTi body, or 2 M mount CV lenses; so you can see the active choice I made. jlm Posted September 25, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 25, 2007 the only reason the LTM8 came into being was that the C/V equivalent was not available. Assuming they are in good supply, I would mill the slots for the same $25 I am asking now. I have to comment that it took long enough for the big guys to get one out there...seeing their price goes through several steps of markup, it probably wasn't a big incentive item. A niche for the small guy, eh? I'm not interested in method 3, however, so that option is wide open for johnalex141r
Dolce Posted September 25, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 25, 2007 Now the question is, A) What type of marker is white, but won't send paint chips onto your sensor. And a little off topic, but.. what the heck is CV doing dropping there 28 1.9 and 35 1.7??? Does anyone know if they have bigger and better plans, or is the 35 1.2 the new cash cow (btw I like CV for there quality cost ratio).. Thanks, adam

sean_reid Posted September 25, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted September 25, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Speaking generally, when CV drops a lens there is a good chance that they will replace it with a newer model (at some point in time). Meanwhile... Cheers, Sean

Re: the Ultron 35/1.7, get one NOW if they're not completely out of stock. A really great lens. It's (almost) completely cured me of Lux lust... T I'm selling my silver one because I bought a black version when I heard that they were going out of production. The Ultron is a stop slower than the Nokton (but much smaller and lighter) and just a 1/2 stop slower than the Lux. It's a lower contrast lens, for better or worse. cbretteville Posted September 26, 2007 Share #11 Posted September 26, 2007 CV dropped the 28 Ultron??? They dropped it a while back (June/July or something like that). Maybe they're moving the optical cell to an M-mount body as they did with the 25 and 21. - C

It's a lower contrast lens, for better or worse. I'm with Sean (as he has expressed in many of his lens reviews) when it comes to the benefits of smaller/lighter. Particularly as it relates to viewfinder blockage, but also in terms of the stealth factor. And on the M8, the lower contrast is actually an advantage in many cases, and very correctable in post when needed. T
