Impossible Lenses To Find!!!

As you know from reading the news, the supply of Leica thingies is exactly analogous to the supply of milk products.

China [for this analogy, read: photographers] is buying dry milk product like it's going out of style. This has resulted in the elimination of all stocks of milk products (dry milk, butter, etc) in Europe and will shortly have the same effect in the US.

The news analysis has mentioned that there is "only so much milk supply" and that everyone is waiting to see if dairy farmers will change their product mix.

That gobbledy-gook is another way of saying that in the short run, Leica can't actually produce a lot more of these things that they are really good at making.

Use what you got; keep your eyes peeled. As an example, one guy on this forum who is a well-known pro and oft-published poster here, just got a lens he wanted by dint of posting around.

What you looking for? Check with Popflash and Classic and other guys, and keep your wallet handy.

I am coming from the M6, so I have been using the 35cron/lux, 50lux and 90cron.

I have bought a CV15 to replace my old Russar 20mm and bought a 35cron asph as my 35s were quite old and in need of some time off...

The 50lux is just not doing it for me and the 90cron seems not to be working properly.

I have replaced it with an old 90 elmarit, which is great but a bit too tight.

I need a 75cron (new) and eventually a 28cron or 24... have not made up my mind up yet... also I am trying do save first for the 75, which is more essential.

What is Popflash and Classic?

Many thanks

Popflash is a dealer, Tony Rose, in California--www.popflash.com. Very knowledgeable. There are lots and lot of othersin the U.S.--www.camerawest.com, also in California. I've often had my best luck trying the smaller, obscure dealers.

Although it too is extremely hard to come by (there is a used one on E-bay at the moment, however), what about the new 28mm Elmarit-M coded lens? I bought it in December and have taken thousands of shots with it. A little contrasty perhaps, but more often than not that is something I prefer. It is about $1495 USD--or, $1800 USD less than the 28mm Cron. I can't think of a time when it really would have made any difference to have had that one extra F-stop--certainly not worth $1,800 to me at least. The Elmarit is a beauty--very light and compact, too. Just a thought.

It is not easy to find the 28 elmarit either!

I got an 'as new' 28mm Summicron last week for 1200GBP from Ffordes in Beauly.

They also had a s/h 28mm Elmarit ASPH a few weeks ago - it also went very quickly.

The trick ( which I will now reveal - to stop me being tempted by any more lenses ) is to look on their site just after it's daily update ( 19:00 UK time ) .

Direct Link to Leica M s/h pages

Happy hunting.

It certainly seems very sharp wide open.

Attached test shot is at f/2 with quite a slow shutter on Acros - no M8 for me, I chose lenses instead and to wait for the M9.

Sorry a out my messed up post above. This is why Guy doesn't post from an iPhone!

I was simply responding to the post about considering the 28 elmarit....impossible to find like the cron.

Exactly right , it's great but posting any length of a conversation is too much. More like yes , no and maybes. LOL

were just too old

Hong Kong used to be Leica lens heaven. Plentiful supply at much lower price. But not anymore. I had to wait for 4 months for a 6-bit 75/cron. And that was the end of last year!

I've just passed 4 months since ordering the same. The problems all the new Leica m8 users... like myself, sorry guys ; )
