More questions on the importance of size - sensor swabs

As if we are not done with the risque inuendo, one more question on the size of sensor swabs.

If I have swabs for a 1.6 sensor what is the down side of using them on the M8? Bear in mind I've never wet a sensor in my life and am really dreading practising on a $4,000 plus piece of equipment.

Gareth2, like you I suspect, the thought of cleaning my sensor with a swab was something I dreaded. I've now done it 3-4X, and it has always worked fine. I'd make sure you have the proper cleaning fluid--their have been some good threads on that subject in the past several months. I assume that you've tried removing the spots with either a blower (not an aerosol can), or a Visible Dust brush or equivalent already and it hasn't worked. You probably have a tiny speck or two of machine oil or something similar that can only be loosened and removed with the fluid and a swab. I think you'll be fine.

P.S. I used Eclipse 2 and it worked very well.

What's good about the M8's sensor is that the coverglass/filter is quite a bit larger than the light sensitive area. If after cleaning there's debris in the corners or at the periphery where you reverse the swab direction it's unlikely to be visible in the image :) - unlike some full frame cameras.

Bob.
