It came way too late.  I originally planned to use Leica for all my works in about 5 years ago, but since they don't support any off camera lighting system (and many more quality issues), I have already switched to Nikon and Fujifilm in the past few years.  Now I only keep 3 leica lenses and an old MP240 body just for fun.   These 2 systems are so good for motions and portraits and I will never look back, I'm sure Leica has lost my business forever.

i'm still hopeful godox will bring full HSS support to the m240/246🤞 from what i've read on this forum, HSS doesn't work above 1/800, this prob needs to be fact checked on the m240/246. I haven't pulled the 'trigger' for this reason. in the interim, i'm using either constant lights or the multifunction grip with a pc sync cord attached to my remote trigger, but this only works up to 1/180 🙃

Oh bummer, I thought the godox triggers support HSS as well.  I guess it's meant for SL series then...  I also dislike the fact that godox charge a premium on leica triggers...  I probably will not buy the leica trigger since I have already made the switch to other systems.

That reminds me of the days when I would plug in the PC sync cord from the multi function hand grip on my M240 onto a Pocket Wizard trigger to keep the hotshoe free for the EVF. Now the SFC1 can go onto the hotshoe of my M10R as I’ve gotten used to using the rear LCD screen for focusing.

Quick Report on Flashpoint (Godox) TTL with Leica

Since I know what a struggle this can be, here’s some info for the forum:

My “kit” is

M240 (Firmware 2.0.5.0, conventional flash sync to 1/180s)

Monochrom 246 (Firmware 1.1.0.0, conventional flash sync to 1/180s)

SL Typ 601 (Firmware 3.7, conventional flash sync to 1/250s)

ALL of these work flawlessly with the Leica SF64 speedlight both in manual and TTL mode (with TTL also at shutter speeds faster than conventional sync speeds).

I’ve also used all three cameras with a set of Buff Einstein 640’s and Buff’s cyber-commander trigger, and while this setup is limited to conventional flash sync speeds, it has also worked right-first-time-every-time.

In 2018, I purchased the Priolite MBX500 and the Leica trigger, and used this with the 3 cameras above.  When it worked, it worked through all shutter speeds.  Problem was, I typically would shoot a few hundred frames in a shoot, interchanging the cameras and the remote trigger with the SF64, and at some point, the cameras (or the trigger) would get confused, and I got misfires.   It was probably something that could have been dealt with, but messing with gear in the middle of a shoot is not optimal.   But:  the long duration of the priolite flash was a joy, because it behaved like a studio set-up: Nice, steady exposure through a series of shots.

I recently purchased from Adorama

Flashpoint Xplor 600 Pro TTL flash unit

Flashpoint R2 Xpro II trigger for Leica

My understanding is that “Flashpoint” is simply Adorama’s private-label name for Godox equipment.

Out-of-the-box, the trigger communicated with the strobe, but TTL was NOT possible.

I then upgraded the firmware on the Xplor 600 TTL per Adorama’s website to version 1.5.  Still no success. (note—this download and installation is NOT easy with a Windows 10 PC—I could only get it to work with my older Windows 7 PC.  You need to download and run drivers and installer programs separately, run everything in administrator mode, and in the case of Windows 10 start the PC in administrator mode and force Windows to “disable driver signature enforcement”.  Suffer through this a few times and you have to give Leica engineers a compliment for their simplistic genius of updating camera firmware via the SD card....)

Adorama did offer competent tech service, and the technician did a remote session through my PC and installed version 1.7 of the strobe firmware, which is apparently only available from the Godox.  The trigger has Version 1.1, the current release as of this writing.

AFTER the upgrade to firmware 1.7, here’s the results:

SL Typ 601:  TTL works at all shutter speeds

M240/MM246:  TTL does NOT work, even though the strobe fires, and the strobe has this “Stuttering” sound—possible multiple pulses trying to stretch the flash duration.  In manual mode, however, the strobe works fine up at or below 1/180s.

So I’m keeping the gear, in the worst of all cases, I’ll use ND or polarizers on the M240/MM246 to “overpower the sun” the old-fashioned way at slower sync speeds.

If anybody knows how to trick out the Godox/Flashpoint strobes to work in TTL with the M240/MM246 classes of  rangefinders, please let us know!

I hope this helps everybody avoid some frustration!
