I would use a dedicated converter. But the one I tested didn’t work.

If they were to do a QT I wonder what focal length they would pick? Maybe 75? That would give you 75-200 using the same crops as the Q2. I guess it would need to be f2.8 to remain relatively compact.

I will be happy to have a fast 50mm lens with the leaf shutter. It’s the most versatile portrait focal length for work outside.

i got it working , but it was very disappointing …. So I stocked to the portrait distance of a few meter. 
 

seriously, if you show a woman a closeup portrait with the q2 , you get a slap 👋.

 

you can take pictures of kids and maybe man. But woman / impossible. 
 

they get oval shaped heads and look like coneheads. 
 

then there is a sweetspot of closeup. 
 

thats it. 
 

And I have no fun in cropping in. 
 

it does not have the same look.

so yes , you can make portraits. 
but can you do beauty shots too? ☺️

Do you remember the X-Vario? That was an APSC equivalent of what you describe and was already wider and deeper than the Q2, though slightly shorter in height. The zoom was 28-70mm (equiv), f/3.5-6.4. It was heavily criticised at launch for its slow aperture (and for its slow AF), though the IQ was said to be good.

A full frame 'Q-Vario' would be considerably larger, especially if a faster lens was included. Frankly, I can't see Leica getting away with a lens with a massively smaller aperture than the Summilux. I don't think it would sell.

Gigapixel? Adobe Enhance? But all uprezzing programs work best if you enlarge before starting your editing.

The "Enhanced" version of the cropped image in LR has 5451x6671 Pixels. An A1 print at 150dpi has 3508 x 4967 pixels. If one keeps to the normal viewing distance - that should work.

Oh, I have one of them still in use regularly 😉. It has an outstanding lens that scaled to FF, with faster AF and combined with a modern, high ISO capable sensor would contribute to a great product. As there is a considerable segment for Elmarits, Elmars and Summarons at the M product line, or many happy R-glass users are enjoying their f4.0 varios with L-mount adaptors and the sensor technology being now well advanced, I'd rate the aperture of such a lens as secondary.

Meh! If the Q3 gets a 60MP pixel-binning sensor there will be no need for anything other than a 28mm to see you through to about 85mm.

i take your point

40mm will give a tad more compression and bokeh for portraits, while still being wide enough for general photography
