Advertisement Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 Hi Riley, Take a look here Leica D Vario-Elmar 14-150mm F3.5-5.6 Asph. Mega OIS. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
sdai Posted September 24, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted September 24, 2007 14-150mm ... f/3.5-5.6 ???!!! Â Now that's a serious insult to the name of Leica. Where can I send my money to a Leica trademark redemption fund? I'm willing to donate 100 dollars.
imported_peter_m Posted September 24, 2007 Share #3  Posted September 24, 2007 I will stick with my 35 cron  Quite possible the case of Pana orders..... Leica designs.......
spylaw4 Posted September 24, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted September 24, 2007 I think it was reported when it was announced a while ago. Allegedly available Nov 2007(-ish). We wait, we see. I"m looking forward to seeing actual results.
dist Posted September 24, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted September 24, 2007 If this lens is going to stay as elusive as the 1.4/25 (which is still widely unavailable) then it isn't going to make a big dent in Oly's 4/3 lens sales. My initial enthusiasm for an "all-in-one" lens has cooled off quite substantially looking at the f stop figures. Guess it goes to show you can't have your cake and eat it, too. Cheers,
rosuna Posted September 24, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted September 24, 2007 The small 4/3 format allows for superzooms not easy to design for bigger formats. A good example are zooms for cinema cameras. I don't see these zooms are exciting for me. I find much more interesting the f/2 zoom promised by Olympus. Top quality superluminous zooms at afordable size/price is the stronger competitive point of the 4/3 format. I think this 4/3 format is some kind of "cinema" format for photography, but its possibilities haven't been fully exploited.
JasonSF Posted September 24, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted September 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Â I am looking for an autofocus 300mm (35mm equiv) lens of say 2.8. Are there any available? I currently have a lovely old Leitz 180mm f2.8 with R adapter ring (35mm equiv 360mm) which is breathtaking! However, at 2.8 I do have some trouble focusing it. Are there any other lenses available that are as good but have autofocus for my digilux 3?

karlitos Posted September 24, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted September 24, 2007 Although I have no issue with this lens being in the finished line up, it would have been nice of them to consider filling some gaps first i.e a prime super wide, prime macro, 50-150 lens that is a stop faster than most others. All of these lenses made to the optical standard of the kit lens and the 25mm 'lux would have been a real benefit. Surely it is these types of lenses that we would like to see before a travel zoom? Â karlitos. Â BTW, a battery grip wouldn't go amiss either.
MJLogan Posted September 24, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted September 24, 2007 While I, too, am a bit sad about 3.5-5.6, a "travel zoom" is exactly what I need next. There's room in my "walking around" bag for the D3 body and 2 lenses. For travel, I'm thinking I'll probably leave the kit lens at home and pack the 25/1.4 and the new long zoom. Pity it won't be ready in time for my trip to Venice and Lucca next month. I suppose I should use that trip as a test, and not take any zoom shots below 5.6. If it annoys me too much, I can save the estimated US$1,300 price of the 14-150, or put it towards a fast Olympus.
harjtt Posted September 24, 2007 Share #12  Posted September 24, 2007 Hi Karlitos  There will eventually be both 45mm F2 OIS macro prime and a 50-150 OIS Leica D lenses sometime in 2008, although the 50-150 was quoted as being a F3.5-5.6 lens which I can't see how it could not have made at least a 2.8-3.5. No mention of a superwide, but you never know they could have a 7mm lens in the works.  Harj
rivi1969 Posted September 25, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted September 25, 2007 It is widely unavailable, but right now there are a few 25mm f1.4 on ebay. In my case the dream lens would be a 14-35mm f2 summicron, similar in size to the Digilux 2 lens! (or a Digilux 2 body, with the Digilux 3 guts)
imnotaniceboy Posted September 26, 2007 Share #14 Â Posted September 26, 2007 we are close. ill be happy with a 11-35 f2 sumicron. that will be nicer.
