Hi,

I recently picked up a 35mm Summilux Titanium pre-asph in an auction and while it came with a 12504 hood, it did not come with any filters. Looking on the web I could see the lens/hood uses a series vii filter and asked Leica Japan if they had one and they suggested independent dealers. Can anyone please give advice on how to order from B+W/or any others including part number? Is another combination better?

Your help is highly appreciated,

Arif

Arif,

I also have the same exact lens, the 35 Summilux Pre-Asph Titanium lens. I use the Leica uv/ir 49 mm filter in the hood filter holder. It fits fine ( I was told the series 7 and 49mm filters were the same physical size, and they fit in the holder identically) and you do not have to go and find a Series VII filter which are I think special order these days. One thing, you have to put it in with the threaded side toward the front. It has been my experience that this lens seems to give better performance with the M8 then it does with my film M's. Don't know why,but it just does.

The smaller sensor hits the sweet spot of the lens and the edges, which are less well corrected, are cut off.

Hi guys,

I solved the same problem with a 39mm UV/IR Leica cutfilter, i made a ring whit rubber-tape around it and it fits perfectly!

The filters of the VII serie depend on your lens hood mounted or not (same i suppose for the 49mm filters in the hood itself) and i found it quite boring, especially if you don't want it, or if you have it or then again if you can't find the cap.

In this way i can use the original cap, i made many proofs and it doesn't vignettes at all, and in this way i can use the original Leica filter, that as we know is less affected by cyan border when used with wide angle lenses, insted of B+W.

Regards

Maurizio!

Many thanks for all the replies and innovative ways to handle the issue. I will try and find a second hand 49mm first and confirm the fit (had read somewhere that it wobbled a little). I do appreciate the reference to the stores and will definitely try them for future orders.

Thank you again for your wonderful help,

Arif
