...The M6 doesn't have better materials, since we know what they are. The wind crank is the pivoted plastic and metal M6 one, not the single metal one on the MP...

Have we seen the guts of the new M6 to confirm what you're saying? How do we know Leica hasn't designed the new M6 to the standard of the MP? They're not reusing 20 year old M6 parts they had laying around to make the new one.

Bummer dude, what can I say.

It's ok, definitely a first-world problem.  I've got two other M film bodies to keep me going in the meantime.  It would have been nice to have actually shot one roll of film before the M2 had to go back, however :)

I bought an M4 from a well known Leica shop earlier this year that had documentation of a just completed shutter overhaul from a very well known Leica tech.  When I checked it over, the shutter was terrible, curtains bouncing at most speeds.  Got a refund.

That sucks.

The reason I bought this particular M2 was because it had just returned from  a thorough overhaul at Wetzlar.  Who better to overhaul the camera, I thought.

I understand that people make mistakes and I'm sure Leica will make it right.  But it would have been nice if the camera had been thoroughly checked out 1) before it left the factory and 2) before the dealer sold it.  The issue only affected the 50mm framelines so I guess it's conceivable they had checked it out with a 35 or a 90 and gave it a pass.

It does suck that the camera had to be returned immediately.  It sure looked nice, though :)

That was exactly the thought process I went through too! Paid the premium for it too!
