Is this the UNX-9625? Does it stay in place?

...A few months ago I got an email with some questions about the Noctilux f1.2 and couldn't remember the answers. On googling it I was referred back to my own article, and on reading it I promptly placed an order!

😅  😅  😅  @jonoslack After reading that testimonial, Leica's marketing department is making a monumental mistake if they do not immediately make you an offer of employment!

Bingo, but double sided tape must be placed to hold it. it will not drop because the filter is very very light(and cheap to buy a new one if lost)

I have one of those in 43mm for my Leica 50/1.4 lux black chrome. It allows the original hood to lock in with the filter without any problems. I think the thickness of the filer is only 1mm or so. The only downside is that these ultra thin filters do not have external threads to it won't work with the 35/1.4 SR + rounded hood (12486).

How did you apply the double tape? To the hood or filter? I guess this would work with any 46mm filter. Correct?

You may put the tape both on the rim of thread of filter and the touch rim of the hood.

I don't think so. It seems like that only this type can be attached as the pictures shows. Filters of other brands have thicker ring and more weight. May be they can be put like this but will not stay easily and will look worse

Did you check if adding the filter to the front of the hood does not increase vignetting (hard vignetting)? So far I have not found a way to use any of the included hoods + protection filter without noticeable increase in vignetting. (even when using a slim filter)

As I see,I do not find noticeable vignetting changing (original vignetting is big too). I. know this solution is way from perfection. Before the reissued steel rim, 99% Leica lens can use hood and filter at the same time. I hope Leica can hear the customers voice and  develop some special filter set to solve the compatibility for the new OLLUX

It's easy to test this: Just take picture at f/1.4 showing a solid background (like the sky) without the hood and another with the OLLUX hood + filter. Today I tried your solution with a regular 46mm filter and got very noticeable increase in vignetting. :(

It looks like for this lens, Leica designed both hoods to be used without filters. Did you try the UNX-9625 attached to the lens with the OLLUX hood? This filter is so thin that I thought this hood would still latch to the rim.

No. I. tried to attach the filter first, then the OLLUX. It can not be placed. The outer rim of filter has just 1.5mm larger to be fitted.

Nice picture. Do you have more pictures taken with the new SR? Do you share them elsewhere like on Flickr? Looking forward to seeing more images taken with the new SR.

Hmm, I have my name on a waiting list but reading about the seeming near impossibility of using hood plus filter gives me pause for thought.  Intended use of the lens would frequently be with my M10M and I always have either an orange or yellow filter fitted to whatever lens I'm using.

I thought there were two hoods in the package, one for no filter and the other (vented) to screw on the filter.
The screen capture is from Leica RED DOT Miami video and confirms it (see list left).

Hi Al,

That is correct. The included ventilated rounded hood 'can' be attached to a filter but this combination causes 'hard' vignetting. Lots of reviewers are missing this point. It's unfortunate that Leica didn't pay attention to this detail. So, yes, you can attach the rounded hood (not the OLLUX version) to a protection filter but the image would have to be slightly cropped in post as the hard vignetting never goes way since it's pure black at the very corners. The thicker the filter the worse the hard vignetting and that's why I wrote that Leica engineered both hoods to be used without filters. At this point, for me it's either filter alone or hood without any filter.

I've posted samples showing this here: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1779165/3#16087546

I don't see any solution for this unless one finds a super duper slim filter with outside threads to attach the rounded hood. The B+W slim version is only ~3mm and it already causes hard vignetting.
