lars_bergquist Posted September 24, 2007 Share #21 Posted September 24, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I admit to being outnumbered as to usage. I am however reminded of that time, after Albert Einstein had moved from Germany to the U.S.A., when the Nazi authorities published a manifesto which declared Einstein's theories to be Jewish nonsense. One hundred professors signed the manifesto (was there really 100 professors of physics left in Germany at that time?) When somebody asked Einstein about this, he answered in his characteristically modest way: —"If I had really been wrong, one had been enough." Scientific or technical matters are not decided by opinion polls, but by the weight of evidence and argument. Note: everybody who engages in an abuse contest is not a Nazi. He may be a religious fundamentalist ... No Einstein, but an old man from his time

jaapv Posted September 24, 2007 Share #22 Posted September 24, 2007 Nothing as sinister as that,Lars, it seems to suffice to be an internet-forum member from time to time....
sean_reid Posted September 24, 2007 Share #23 Posted September 24, 2007 O.K. I have just deleted two earlier posts that could have flared up into uncivil behaviour. It could have been ignored, but I want to demonstrate that the Mods have recently agreed to toughen up on lack of civility and courtesy towards fellow forum members. Disagree all you like, that is healthy, but stay civil. Nuff said. Now all go out and show some flare in your photography style. Hi Erl, I never saw those two posts but I, again, applaud the fact that people are expected to be civil and respectful in their discussions and debates on this forum. That kind of civility is lacking almost everywhere, especially on Internet forums where some behave as they do in traffic. Cheers, Sean

ho_co Posted September 25, 2007 Share #25 Posted September 25, 2007 Damn, Guy, don't you know anything? That's Mark Twain! Lars-- No one is on your case (that I can see). It's nothing but linguistic usage, and there's good reason to make clear distinctions, but it's not uncommon to lump them all together. --HC
