gmaurizio Posted September 22, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all! I am using a B+W 52mm UV/IR filter with my CV 35mm F1.2. The problem is that, with that filter, I can not use the hood. Does someone know which filter brand should I use to be able to insert the hood? Thanks for your help. gmaurizio Posted September 22, 2007 Author Share #3 Posted September 22, 2007 Thanks Manuel, but my problem is which filter (UV/IR) will allow me to inset the hood... I can use the cap provided with the B+W filter, but no hood! And the hood keeps reflections away, specially in theater shots.

I haven't tried with the original cap. Wait a minute...
ArtZ Posted September 22, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 22, 2007 My B+W UV/IR Silver cut 52mm #486 works fine with both hoods (normal and vented). Just tested. Cheers Added: In fact, you need the Nikon lens cap only when you use the vented hood LH-
stunsworth Posted September 22, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 22, 2007 If the filter has a hood then it's probably one on the B+W slimline ones. These are wider than the standard filters, hence why the lens hood won't fit over it. Exchange the filter for a non-slim one and you should be ok. I had exactly the same problem with my 24mm Elmarit. I have the slim filter and it is larger than the barrel, therefore I can not clip the Hood. The regular (non-slim) version should do the trick. jeffwros Posted October 2, 2007 Share #10 Posted October 2, 2007 Does the lack of lens coding on the 35mm f/1.2 effect the performance on the M8 or create any issues with the images with the B+W filter?

cliffordjim Posted October 3, 2007 Share #13 Posted October 3, 2007 Yes Manuel you are right... the lens is awesome... I use it with the B+W filter (non-slimline) and I have been shooting it mostly at 1.2 and couldn't be happier... I am a Noctilux addict but the M8 crop factor has relegated that lens almost strictly to portrait duty. The Nokton 35 1.2 is poetry in motion... here are 3 examples from a wedding 2 days ago... the last one is with flash... yup flash at 1.2 (thanks to Jamie for his advice on this) During the reception I slapped a Nikon SB25 flash on the M8 and set it on Manual at 1/64 power (the lowest setting possible) with the diffuser in place and the flash head straight up with built in flashcard in the up position... it works better than I had hoped ... and so subtle it's hard to tell there is a flash at all when it fires... helps with shadows on faces when it is really dark... I think the batteries will last for 5 years at this power setting!!
