jc_braconi Posted January 2, 2023 Share #21  Posted January 2, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) Luigi, when I am looking at models with their respectives serial numbers let me making some reflections : between your lens and mine they seems to be of the same model the gap is 129 006 to 235 575. Looking at pancrazi ones, that seems also of the same model respectively , the gap is 96 538 to 566 047. Somebody can tell me what is the first and second model in this case ? There is also a third model completely black.

luigi bertolotti Posted January 3, 2023 Share #25  Posted January 3, 2023 (edited) Thanks Bob ! And, as my friend JC says, there is indeed some oddity looking at serials : - My 129006 is clearly a HEGRA - non rotating mount - Yours 129118 is clearly a HEKON - rotating mount Apart finishing, two well different build of the lens' barrel.. it's curios that two items manufactured (in theory) in the same days are so different... even if, probably, manufacturing departments were not yet so strictly organized in term of workflow,,, they were still in the ramp-up phase of a product line (lenses for Leica - just introduced as an interchangable lens camera) that was so succesfully to establish around a real "factory in the factory". But according to Lager the timeline of the Hektor 7,3 was : - 1931-32 : HEKON - 1933 HEGRA . made together with the HEKON - 1934 onwards : HEGRA only on pricelist (but, as showed by Pangrazi, and reported by Lager and Van Hasbroek too, HEKONs with high s/n do exist) And this would be logical : the non rotating mount was made to allow the usage of Agfacolor filters which were introduced in 1933,, and in the same year Leitz modified also the Summar 5cm to permit the mount of Agfacolor filters. So... the s/n of your lens looks "right"... my one not... explanation ? 1) My lens was made after yours... maybe in 1933 or even after... 129006 was a "leftover" number 2) My lens was originally a HEKON, then factory-modfied to HEGRA for some reason. My sources are only the one I quoted, plus Laney... if some article that goes in depth about the story of the 7,3 has been published somewhere, , it's welcome. Fere's another view of my item... the soft leather pouch is very fine... 🙂 Welcome, dear visitor!
