LVSBB6 Posted September 21, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted September 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone else find the autofocus on Digilux 3 to be on the slow side? especially when you compare it with Digilux 2, which I find is much quicker. Â Is there any settings which I can change to improve this?
Advertisement Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Hi LVSBB6, Take a look here Digilux 3 autofocus issue. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
goodbokeh Posted September 21, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted September 21, 2007 Try the center only AF point, that works fast. The center setting provides me control of the focus point and the simplicity of not having to second guess the camera's selection.
MJLogan Posted September 21, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted September 21, 2007 Yes, my D3's autofocus performance improved enormously when I switched to the single center point.

Is there any settings which I can change to improve this?  Leo to further explain this issue.... If you chose the 3-zones AF (Left, Center, Right). The computer seems to have an algorithm that is trying to measure and then average a focal plane for the 3 zones. This has to be electro mechanically slow by nature.  To over come this, chose and use Central zone AF only......a menu setting.  This is extremely fast. Many times faster than my D2.
LVSBB6 Posted September 22, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted September 22, 2007 After experimenting further, i find autofocus is much quicker when taking pictures with the Viewfinder rather than the Liveview mode. Does anyone else notice this?
goodbokeh Posted September 22, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted September 22, 2007 Oh sure, that is the nature of Live View because it has to flip the mirror back down and up again to provide an image to the autofocus module. I understand the new Lumix L10 will (uniquely) autofocus directly off of the sensor in Live View mode with the two new Leica D lenses just introduced. That should provide comparable Live View AF speed to using the viewfinder.
