michael_b_elmer Posted September 21, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just received the following message: "Dear Leica M8 Customers We would like to inform you about further updates for your camera. Subjects New firmware version 1.108 - Not available for download! New firmware version 1.108 - Not available for download! As of now, all LEICA M8 cameras produced are equipped with the new firmware version 1.108. For the user, this firmware version is identical to the current version 1.107. This was necessary because certain electronic parts were no longer available and had to be replaced. If you have the firmware version 1.107 installed in your camera, your LEICA M8 will remain absolutely up to date. An update to the version 1.108 is unnecessary. Hence, this firmware version will not be available as a download on our homepage." Can anybody shed light over these change in electronics in the M8? michael_b_elmer Posted September 21, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted September 21, 2007 ... but thanks for thinking of us! --HC Great! Sorry, had not seen the others, that were sent simultaneously. But my question is still valid, and I redraft it: Is there now a M8-2 - and does that have anything to do with the price increase as of Oct 1st?? Whar is the diofference between M8 and M8, ver.2? Perhaps Mark could at some time help us, but to be frank, Leica should perhaps be more open on this point.
jaapv Posted September 21, 2007 Share #5 Posted September 21, 2007 I cannot see how there could be a link if Leica themselves do no use "increased part costs"as a reason - it is a favorite industry excuse....
Guest guy_mancuso Posted September 21, 2007 Share #6 Posted September 21, 2007 It is a nothing update folks . What it is, is cameras leaving the factory will have 1.108 on there camera's some parts are replaced and it is just an update for those parts so it has nothing to do with existing camera's. I actually loaded the beta on both my existing camera's to test and no changes to the camera's . Really i would call it a spec update so please don't read into it as anything else but that. There are no changes to be realized whatsoever on the performance of existing camera's in place today reason it is not a downloadable update. Best advice carry on and not too worry about it. This has nothing to do with a real downloadable firmware update that will make any user changes
