Hi,

I am in Vancouver, BC for a few days & looking forward to trying out a new C V 15mm heliar lens that I just bought.

Does anyone have any good recommendations on where to go and shoot? I was thinking of heading up to Whistler but want to hit Vancouver and take in the city.

It was a last minute type of trip & I didn't have a chance to do much research before I arrived.

Any recommendations or tips would be great!

the road to whistler, "sea to sky highway" is a dream for a cv15. you could also take the lifts up at whisler (they accomadate mountain bikes in summer and limited glacier skiing). Anything up there is great. In Vancouver there would be ifinite "street/city" opportunities. I bought my m8 in Van at Leo's camera. Drop in on them up on the main strip up there. Great camera shop. Alot of seedy parts of Van down the hill so keep your eyes open if your not used to that sort of thing. Have fun...B

Thanks Brad!

I'm not staying too far away from Leo's & I'll defintely check it out tomorrow am. The weather is supposed to be decent on Saturday so I'm going to head up there & shoot as much as possible.

Thanks for the great advice...I'll ask the folks at Leo's for any other recommendations!

The seediness shouldn't bother me....I live in NYC so I'll probably feel like I'm home!

The suspension bridge is a nice scenic area and views of the city from Stanley Park is worth while. If you like pastry, try the Diplomat cake at Notte's Bon Ton, absolutely the best. Great city. Enjoy

a few others - Capilano Canyon and Lynn Canyon foot suspension bridges and gorges, water-bus across Burrard inlet to N. Vancouver, Grouse Mountain cable car ride ( the one currently appearing in Royal Bank of Scotland TV ads) - Those foot bridges cry out for a 15mm

When you go to Leo's talk to Jeff Gin. He shoots Leica M and is a wealth of knowledge. Try and avoid Peter (glasses and beard).

Even though it's touristy, you may enjoy shooting in Gastown, and there is great street photography ops on the Robson strip.

Enjoy!

Agreed (Peter is OK once you get to know him), also talk with David Donaldson - he is the resident rangefinder pro.

As for Vancouver, if you are into some urban people type shooting and as mentioned Robson St. starting at the art gallery, Sin Yet Sen Gardens in Chinatown, Chinatown, Gastown can be fun with a wide lens. The seawall is in a bit of mess right now after the major storms of last winter so be aware of that, Kits Beach, Science World, and the possibilities are endless in the downtown core - some great old buildings, etc. Unless you are really brave - stay out of the Main and Hastings area - although the street shooting possibilities can be endless there.

If you are in Vancouver on a Friday morning 9 am at the Zen Cafe on Yew St. you can meet up with the local Vancouver Leica community - this happens rain shine sleet hail and whatever else global warming can bring to the west coast. Tom Abrahamson will most likely be there unless he is traveling to far off and exotic places. It is fun and the breakfast fare is excellent.

Cheers. Terry.

Have a great time out there. While in the city you can stop by Hard Rock and see the "Grease!" jacket hanging on the wall signed by me and my wife Debbie! Pretty fun for us, anyway!

Believe it or not, the aquarium is pretty awesome and in a very scenic part of Vancouver. Worth stopping by!

Thanks from me too for all the responses. I fly in tomorrow for a few days en route to the Rockies and then Toronto, Montreal and Quebec. Can't wait! :)

"Sadly" I'll be on the Icefields Parkway by Friday or I'dve loved to have crashed the Leicaphile get together.

Pete.
