In 1944 a dutch resistance group was shot here. Because of the wind moving the dunes, their body's were never found. I walked here this morning and remembered the story, that feeling did make this composition. Â Azzo and Pierre-Oliver, Thank you both for commenting, it means a lot to me. It looks as if it is slightly behind the area of focus.  I would have preferred to see a larger area of sky (and the complete tree), less OOF foreground.  Finally not that comfortable with the desaturation. You are right, the tree is out of focus, as i intented. The sharpness is in the front and ends towards the tree. That gives a strange feel of distance between the foreground and the second tree. Because of the difference in hight, and me lying in the sand, it is as if you can't get into it. ... It may be disturbing and that was for me intentional. Please keep in mind the history of the execution on which i based this picture.  The dictionary says "contrived" means mechanical. Sorry for my english. I give you that one. I don't know any natural(non-digital??!??!??) way of obtaining this 'duo-effect'. You may dislike it. Of course everybody has his own opinion and has to express frankly his feeling. At first see this shot was looking a bit strange but the more you look at it the more you like it, I believe. When I red the story about this beach, I started to understand or feel even better what you have tried to express (with success) in this shot. At some point I would even imagine that this shot was taken from (inside) the sand if you see what I mean.... Strange when you know what happened there. Its oke for me that we(people in general) differ. For me the "taking of this picture' was not an conscious act all the way. I knew the story and felt the need to compose it somehow. 'Forced' i do grasp that verb. For me it was a study in what can i tell in one picture and what atmosphere comes accross. Which photografic and postprocess-tools do i have to use for that cause. The picture in its own sake does not tell the hole story. Its just mine impression of how i see these Dunes with that story in my mind. I guess!! A lot happens on a unconsious level.
