Tony C. Posted September 19, 2007 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2007 There certainly has! I received my Model 3 (from China) within a week of ordering, and my first impressions are very positive! Tim Issac, the designer of the "Thumbs Up", has done an outstanding job, from design, to execution, to shipping and packaging. As Tim has suggested, using the Thumbs Up makes picking up and holding the M8 much more comfortable and secure. As to the question of which of the two models to use, I can only say that I have relatively small hands, and the (longer) Model 3 feels fine. Those with larger hands will likely prefer the Model 1. Looks like I'll have to remove it to put on the Frankenfinder though.... It'll stay on, and could help stabilize the camera, with a longer lens. It's worth it for that if for no other reason. The fact is that the vast majority of M8 users are principally concerned with how it works as photographic tool, not how it looks. And the attempted analogy is absurd, given that bumper stickers do not enhance the performance of cars in any way. Not surprisingly, Tim had many pre-orders to fill, and I'll bet that you'll see his device on many M8s before the dust settles. Regards, Tony C. I thought this was the forum where we had threads about whether you should buy the M8 in black or in chrome. And I thought this was the forum where you could find posts about how to change the red Leica dot to a black one. Somehow I was confusing Leica with one of those companies that issues special commemorative edition cameras with gold lettering or special coverings or whatever, and then packages those same cameras in special boxes so you can look at the camera rather than actually use it. I agree the writing looks awful, look at the emphasis Leica puts on the new Summarit's font used for the engraving! I lack the bumper sticker, but have plenty of scratches - guess that's the price you pay for living in a city and actually use the thing. Just imagine that most people won't see the logo while you're pointing the camera at them - of course you're screwed once they walk around the cabinet... I have one on order, and I feel ambivalent about the logo, but I guess I'd rather have it printed like the prototype. I have a feeling that the logo is screen printed, and that it could be removed quite easily with white or methylated spirit, though I wouldn't want to try cellulose thinners.
