MikeMyers Posted September 17, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) If I accidentally press the shutter release while a lens cap is still on the camera, the M10 sees a very dark image and starts counting down - and will probably do so twice. Is the proper thing to do, to turn the camera off, and back on? Or is there a more appropriate way to "reset" the camera? (I just waited until it timed out, but if I want to reset it more quickly, there is probably a better way.) LocalHero1953 Posted September 17, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 17, 2022 It counts down twice (1) for the inevitable long exposure and (2) for the long exposure noise reduction dark slide shot. You should get a perfectly noise-free black image.
darylgo Posted September 17, 2022 Share #4 Posted September 17, 2022 In practice I've had no issues turning off power to the camera and then back on as you mentioned in the cap-left -on scenario. Leica electronics are finicky so it might be best to wait for the red light to extinguish before powering up.
Guest Posted September 17, 2022 Share #5 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) I’ve done that several times 😳 and have just switched the camera off and back on with no issues Edited September 17, 2022 by OThomas
Siriusone59 Posted September 17, 2022 Share #6 Posted September 17, 2022 Just tell people that you're checking for possible light leaks with the cap or between the lens and the body.😉
Camaro5 Posted September 18, 2022 Share #7 Posted September 18, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) If I'm doing bracketed sets I'll sometimes put my hand in front of the camera or even use the lens cap to set the brackets apart. In that Instance I try and set the shutter speed to something fast to avoid the camera taking a long exposure and going into NR mode.
microview Posted September 20, 2022 Share #8 Posted September 20, 2022 I once loaned my film camera to a girl-friend who was going to a wedding. But she never took the lens cap off... Mistake I still sometimes make is to have a finger over the rim of the lens, with resulting yellow corner patch in image.

rramesh Posted September 22, 2022 Share #10 Posted September 22, 2022 For an M lens, a lens cap is a decoration one should always preserve in it's mint condition in it's original packaging. You don't need it when using the lens, but you absolutely need it when you want to sell it.
Alberti Posted September 24, 2022 Share #11 Posted September 24, 2022 at least the automatic exposure won't go to 30 secs - because of the light leaks around the cap. But on/off is the quick thing I do.
