OscarLeica Posted September 15, 2022 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, here again with a problem with my M6 classic just came back from service form minor issues. I took the camera today for the first time, put film and batteries on and when I pressed the button to activate the lightmeter the arrows appeared correctly but in addition to that a strange red glow invaded the viewfinder. I checked the glasses but I realised that the problem is not in the viewfinder but it is like a reflection coming from the rangefinder reflective mechanism. I also noticed that from a certain point of view, 2 strange "bubbles" objects are visibile in the viewfinder (pictures below). The red light coming from the lightmeter's red arrows reflects to those "bubbles" causing the glow. Any suggestion? Ofc tomorrow I'll come back to the service.... Thx Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted September 15, 2022 Posted September 15, 2022 Hi OscarLeica, Take a look here M6 - lightmeter issue - glow/bubbles. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
OscarLeica Posted September 15, 2022 Author Share #2 Posted September 15, 2022 I tried to take a photograph of the "red glow". It looks like a red area with black circles inside. adan Posted September 16, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 16, 2022 Those look like droplets of something transparent; water, a cleaning fluid, light machine oil, optical cement. Can you see them (possibly much smaller) looking through the front of the viewfinder toward the eyepiece? From the front, they may or may not reflect the red from the meter. LeicaR10 Posted September 16, 2022 Share #4 Posted September 16, 2022 OscarLeica, I would send the camera back to whomever did your service. It didn't have the issue before you sent in, now you have this afterwards. I would write a note describing what happened and include your photographs. I am sure whomever did your service will get this resolved. r/ Mark
250swb Posted September 16, 2022 Share #5 Posted September 16, 2022 I suppose you could narrow it down a bit by covering the windows one at a time but either way it's not right and you should send it back.
OscarLeica Posted September 16, 2022 Author Share #6 Posted September 16, 2022 thx guys. Yes, I'll send it back today. I checked the camera from the front of the viewfinder as suggested by Adan but it is completely clean and transparent, i.e. the "drops" are not real, they are a reflection of something wrong (particles, or corrosion/flaking) inside the viewfinder mechanism. thx
Huss Posted September 16, 2022 Share #7 Posted September 16, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm not sure how the LEDs are attached, but perhaps a mask around them was dislodged thus showing these light leaks/reflections? it wasn't happening before, and now it is. So they did something. I checked my MP (which basically is the same type of display) and nothing like that. And I remember an M6 I used was fine too.
