Hi all,

Before I take the brand new MP to the dealer for inspection, please advise if this is a user error, something I can fix myself or maybe it's a more serious issue.

All shots across multiple rolls have a thin dark top edge, just like in the picture below.

It is a scan, and if I scan the image upside down the dark edge stays at the same place, i.e. shows on the bottom edge now.
The pics I post on the forums here have the dark edge cropped out.

I'll scan in-between frames and report back.

Here's another example. Scanner is Plustek 8200i.

You can see in the image below that the exposed part is offset a bit towards the bottom.
And it happens with every roll (around 6 rolls by now).

I haven't noticed the offset part by now because I just place the film inside the 35mm tray of the scanner and didn't bother to check the distance of the exposed parts from the edges. And by looking at the negative it kinda looks that the shutter is fine, but the placement of the negative on the Y axis is offset a bit.

  • neonvoid changed the title to New MP - possible shutter issue? (Update: non-issue, user error)

As seen on the negative here.

Nothing wrong with the shutter.

I see offset, I fear that this can be inside the tolerance limits.

Untill now, I've seen only from LTM Leica users

...

{

 Side note, when I use non symetric wide angle lens, the images are quite a bit larger than 24x36 .

The separations between two frames are thin and sometimes non existent.

}

...

old story ...on LTM Leica

I'd go to Leica dealer with the negatives to ask them.

Myself, having seen so many strange behaviors on Leica M and R (+LTM), over years,

I would not worry about this minor "flaw".

They are "man-made" (or woman-made) after all.
