Leica Q2 for Antarctica

I am interested in using a Leica Q2 as one of my cameras for an upcoming Antarctica trip. My thoughts are that the Q2 would be excellent for landscape and photos on the ship. i have a waterproof backpack and dry bags for protection but my question concerns the tolerance of the camera in this cold environment. I will be using a Canon R3 and 100-500mm lens for the other  camera. These are the only two cameras i plan upon using since I prefer keeping it simple.

Any insight as to the use of the Q2 in Antarctica or similar cold environments? I will obtain additional batteries given the compromised output in the cold.

When I went about a dozen years ago, I found that the vast majority of my photos were with my Digilux2 (28-75 mm zoom), and not all that much with my Vlux (28 -400).  So, between the wonderful ability to crop, if necessary, with the Q2, you'll do well with the Q2 & Canon.  Keep spare batteries in your parka's inner pocket.

If you don't want to pack suitable boots, you can arrange to rent boots which will be waiting for you on your ship in Ushuaia.

Get a prescription for the Trans Derm Scop patch (Scopolamine), which if you're even slightly subject to motion sickness you might need depending on how rough the passage is - You'll need 2 patches - one for the way south and one for the way north.  the only side effect is extremely dry mouth when sleeping.

Be certain to show us your Leica photos when you return.

I don't think you'll have any worries -- the temperature in Antarctica in the summer is very similar to Germany in the winter....

Sincerely appreciate the prompt and helpful feedback. Definitely will include the Q2 on my journey. 

The ship will provide the appropriate boots, so that will be one less concern. Thankfully we will be flying over the Drake passage, before boarding and when departing our ship,  which will eliminate the rough seas in that region. We also have a luggage weight limit of 44 pounds (including carry on and personal gear) which plays a role in the photography gear selection.

They might even provide parkas, but not gloves - Our visit did.  You're quite fortunate that they offer the flight over Drakes Passage.  Your ship will be in protected waters all the time, unless this tour includes St. George or the Falklands.
