Er, ah, no Steve, in your eagerness to chime in with a patronising remark it seems you failed to stop long enough to comprehend my statement. Unless of course in your town the living congregate at the local cemetery other than a few at a time to visit family graves.

Ah I see, thanks for clarifying.

So what you are saying is in an average cemetery there will be 10 times as many graves as here are visitors. I apologise for misunderstanding your intent.

Alas the last time I was there this wasn't the case. There were almost 1000 times more graves than visitors. Perhaps these places attract tourists in your part of the world.

Wow - this discussion went off on some eccentric tangents while I was away...

Some of my recent (personal) impressions, to get the thread back on (what I thought) was the track:

- film is definitely being superseded as the main image-capture format by digital (although I'm not sure the process is so completely ubiquitous worldwide as those of us used to surfing the web on our privileged computers might think)

- however, there's definitely something of a renaissance in film use (however slight). I see that as more people take up digital photography, there will be a complementary increased interest in other media, including traditional methodologies. I note, for instance, that the recent exhibition of Sally Mann's work here in Stockholm was the most visited in the Culture House's (Kulturhuset) history.

- there's evidently a strong interest in film cameras: I can attest to this after attending a recent camera auction - prices were very healthy, TOO healthy for my liking in some cases...

- the M8 forum is often busy with technical problems, and digitally-interested, computer-connected users feel they need to keep up-to-date with the issues (whether to chime-in with "me too" or, perhaps more often, "both my M8s are working fine"-type of responses). These issues are not really so prevalent with film cameras.

I'm glad to read that Vinay owns and uses "hundreds" of film cameras along with his digital cameras. I've managed to confine myself to just a couple - but I'm frankly enjoying them much more than any digital capture and post-manipulation from the last few years. Like it or not, the whole process just feels more 'real' to me.

This can be slightly different for the older models - I just made a hardware upgrade for my M3 - Leicameter MR (CdS) instead of the Selenium based Leicameter M if I I'm not in the mood for guessing or hand held metering. They make the M kind of clumsy.

60 Euros and the MR went back to operation after cleaning the contacts. :)

There's no disagreement with my hand held meters, although the battery voltage is wrong (Hg batteries are not allowed any more over here).

aaahhh we have to excuse Vinay as he learnt everything he knows from his local dealer

My what a clever fellow are you! I simply must print out your reponse and show it to Peter and the chaps at the next Westlicht auction. We'll all have a great laugh at the hysterical irony.

Well, I've been shooting color chromes since 1942 - - and with a Leica since 1945.

The only reason I have to enter either the Customer or the Film Forum is to see what's happening that I need to know.

The digital folk are on a very steep learning curve. Further, they have to consider how to print and archive the pixels they gather in the M8. It's a new ball game for them.

A few individuals have gone directly from film "point and shoot" to the M8. They, above all others, need major hand-holding to be able to get the most from their new dedication to Leica.

The number of individuals currently accessing digital vs film isn't important.

What IS important is the quality of the threads and the replies thereto.
