Advertisement Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 Hi olivierattal, Take a look here X-U. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
biglenslittlelens Posted September 16, 2022 Share #2 Posted September 16, 2022 Mine drowned with water in the lens at 5m, i assume it had a fault and was replaced under warranty. I have since had a waterproof housing built for mine as the water pressure in the surf is higher than just diving down a couple meters.
tom0511 Posted September 16, 2022 Share #3 Posted September 16, 2022 I would (and do) much prefer a small sensor TG-6 for anything other than snorkeling (and even for that). It takes better images that one would imagine. I See the X_U as a tough adventure camera, but not a divers camera. Even if it stands the pressure, the lens ist too long, the AF too slow, the short distance too long,... IMO
biglenslittlelens Posted September 17, 2022 Share #4 Posted September 17, 2022 (edited) I use manual focus / zone focus in the surf with it. Works fine, and 35 mm is a good all round focal length but it depends on what you want to be photographing. You have full manual control with a larger sensor which for me gives more control and image quality than the TG series. If you want a full dive camera though you will need another housing for it. tom0511 Posted September 17, 2022 Share #5 Posted September 17, 2022 I can imagine that 35mm works fine for surf but under water it is pretty long. Under water you want to get close, even on the TG I use a wide angle converter on the housing. Also under water there is not much light, so you often might have to shoot wide open (except close distance) - so zone focus would be difficult. I love Leica cameras on land, but under water there are better solutions IMO. The small sensor in the Oly TG-6 is better than I would have expected. But sorry I am off topic... biglenslittlelens Posted September 17, 2022 Share #6 Posted September 17, 2022 Just depends on what you photograph. I still zone focus at f11 underwater for surfers and people and it works fine. The sensor gets enough light in the top 3-4 metres and images are not noisy. But if you want to do macro then forget that. it might be marketed as waterproof but I wouldn’t go deep without a custom housing. I know of others that had the same issue with drowning them.
