Thanks in advance, if you’ll post some of yours Edited August 23, 2022 by visualdiary

Did you do post processing on the first image, with the young girl? Wondering if the tone is from camera or from the surroundings. I guess the vignette is because she is sitting in a distance from the window, as it doesn’t appear on the other images you posted. How do you like the camera when shooting indoor and/or with high iso? I also like the grain on the image with the 2 musicians, is it also nice looking on your original? Any issues you’ve run into with the camera, I should know about? Edited August 24, 2022 by visualdiary
stuny Posted August 24, 2022 Share #5 Posted August 24, 2022 Thank you, V. The little 1st communion girl was in a hotel in Cork. As i passed by I saw how she was sitting and the light and asked her parents if I could take the photo. If I recall properly, other than resizing I made no adjustments in post. The vignetting is purely a matter of the light at the location. In the first version I cropped it some, eliminating the vignetting, but when I went back to the unprocessed image, I realized this version was better. The two musicians were in a pub called McDermott's in Doolan. There was relatively little light, and no doubt the ISO was up high - I almost always leave the camera set for auto ISO, and almost always use the lens wide open at f:1.7. Additionally, I almost always shoot in the highest density JPEG, very seldom shooting RAW. I don't have the time to process RAW, especially when traveling, and trying to keep up with processing each day's images. I've added a 3 more images shot in Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan of a model some distance away during a fashion shoot. For those images I cropped quite a bit. My preference has always been for zoom lenses with wide to strong tele, so the Q was quite a change - actually a supplement. During our visit to Japan, I found that for some potential images my kit was not good enough in extremely low light, so my wife surprised me with the Q. Since then, it's my carry everywhere camera, except if my expectations are of seeing wildlife. for travel I carry the Q and a Vlux114, which fits well with our carry-on only luggage travel. Any negative issues I've had with the camera were ones i caused - In Newfoundland I dropped the Q from a fairly high height onto a concrete floor, denting the baseplate. I have a new baseplate on order. There actually are 2 minor annoyances. The first is the switch to go from off to single or multi shot, which is quite still, and it's too easy to overshoot to multi, which I have not done in quite some time. The other is the lens cap. It's a handsome cap that slips over either the lens or the lens hood, staying in place by friction. Over time it becomes worn and will fall off if even barely brushed. Leica used the same design for other lens caps with similar results - Someplace my 500 mm mirror lens cap is sitting in the Ugandan bush. There are a number of 3rd party lens caps available, and the forum members have discussed their favorites in the forum. Welcome, dear visitor! stuny Posted August 24, 2022 Share #6 Posted August 24, 2022 So you can get an idea of how far away the model was, and how much I had to crop, have a look at this image. I used the Q's autofocus. Thank you for taking the time to write the details - much appreciated 😀 I’m amazed with the crop you are showing, as the cropped images still looks very good in quality. And I did get the Q! I didn’t take many try-out images with it, before I was completely amazed how real the images looks, how detailed it is in 1.7 and how awesome the colours looks! I had a Fuji x100 with fast lens but fell into the ocean with it, so I changed for Fuji xt30, with 28mm (=35mm), but the struggle in my head about what other lens to get, goes on and on. I also got a 35mm (=50mm), but not happy with the quality. I think I will be very happy not having to wonder about other lenses again!! I have a Nikon D3s as well, with many lenses, which I use for professional jobs, but since corona I'm working full time in a non-photography job, so doing much more private shooting now, which feels amazing 😀 So a best walk-around friend is very welcome! The feel of the Leica is so nice. I also did numerous shooting already, and also did several 1 second movies, as my finger apparently hits the video button. I’ll look into the cap, thanks for the tip 😀
stuny Posted August 26, 2022 Share #8 Posted August 26, 2022 Great news, V. Be sure to sow us your favorite photos. This is my favorite cap, and I even use the tether, something I vowed never to do.: Match Technical Lens Cap for Leica Q and Q2 Cameras MT-LC-SR-01 (bhphotovideo.com)
ravinj Posted August 27, 2022 Share #9 Posted August 27, 2022 I use the same cap and had the same initial reaction that I won't ever use something like that. Now it is a must have for me.
