A Panasonic LX100 MkII is not the first choice for a bird photo but a paltry 24-75mm zoom was the longest lens we had available (pic cropped slightly). We spotted the heron across the estuary and thought it would be too far away, but when we came back from the beach it had come much closer. It suddenly froze and we reckoned we had scared it but it didn't care one jot about us -- it suddenly scooped up a fish. We then tracked it to get a better angle.
