Leica D-Lux off-brand battery

Just wondering if anyone has had used the Adorama Leica replacement battery : ACD252 Adorama Replacement Lithium Ion Battery for Panasonic CGA-S005A, Ricoh DB-60,& Leica D-Lux 3 Digital Camera Battery, 3.7v, 1300mAH

 

At $20, it's less than half the price of the Leica branded battery, but i'm wondering if you 'get what you pay for' on it as well.

I bought an aftermarket battery for my V-Lux and it's hopeless. The aftermarket batteries I have for my Canon's are fine and there doesn't seem to be much difference in design.

Best battery news I've had lately are the new Sanyo Eneloop NmHi. Excellent!

I've used after-market batteries in my Digilux 2 and my D-Lux 2 for 2 years or so without any problems so far. The capacity and recharge rate are similar but the price was substantially less.

You probably won't go wrong trying it, particularly considering the price difference. If it doesn't work, just throw it away.

 

You may have seen Leica's comments concerning use of off-brand batteries with the M8 (http://www.leica-camera.de/assets/file/download.php?filename=file_2886.pdf):

 

2.7 Mittlerweile werden Fremdakkus für die LEICA M8 angeboten. Kann ich diese bedenkenlos in der Kamera verwenden?

 

Tests dieser Fremdakkus haben ergeben, dass deren Kapazität deutlich geringer als beim Leica Originalakku 14464 sein kann (z.B. 1400mAh anstatt 1900mAh beim Original). Der Fremdakku verfügt nicht über die speziell auf die Kameraelektronik angepasste Ladelogik, dadurch sind evtl. Funktionsstörungen, z. B. falsche Kapazitätsanzeige oder unerwartetes Abschalten der Kamera, nicht auszuschließen. Darüber hinaus erlischt die Garantie der Kamera, wenn ein Defekt durch die Verwendung von Fremdzubehör ausgelöst wurde (siehe Garantiebestimmungen lt. Garantiekarte). Das bei Li-Ionen-Batterien vorgeschriebene Schutzkonzept kann bei Fremdakkus unzureichend sein und vom Original abweichen. Leica übernimmt daher keine Verantwortung für irgendwelche Schäden, die durch die Verwendung von Fremdakkus (auch beim Ladevorgang oder beim Transport) entstehen.

 

Some folks on the M8 forum decided to use the off-brand batteries till completely empty to keep the camera and battery in sync. Might be a decent idea with D-Lux batteries as well, instead of recharging the foreign battery when convenient.

I have 2 after market batteries for the D2 and one each for LX1 and FZ8 from a reputable supplier, cycle them with orig batteries, no discernable difference in performance but approx 1/6 in price.

i bought one in b and h (the impact battery), since they were out of stock on the leica battery. it's in my camera now (v-lux) and functioning perfectly.

I've got two "Leica" batteries for both my Digilux 2 and my V-Lux 1, also loads of the cheapest that e-bay can supply from Hong Kong, no discernible difference.
