Hello, I have a specific question, are there any old lenses with non-removable goggles? I have M11 and want to try some old lenses, for instance, Leica Summaron 35.
I can find some lenses on the Internet, but the information on whether goggles are removable is missing. For example, the lens with removable

and here, without mentioning :

The second question, is it a good idea to try(buy) such lenses for M11 ?

Many thanks for the information.

My opinions are :

1 - the 3.5/35 with goggles would be possible to use as is, so with attached goggles for RF focussing

these goggles can be removed only if you use LV/Visoflex for focus.

2 - The 2/50 SOMNI is special, very good lens * , you can use without goggles RF focus from 1m to infinity

then for near range you can attach the goggles focus with RF 90cm to 48cm

3 - Only you can say after using them if it's good or not for your M11 *

...

*

I use them on M film or sensor to 24Mpixels with excellent results

Hi,

I own two 'goggled' lenses: a 35 Summicron (from 1962), and a 135 Elmarit (1972). These work on any M camera, including the M11.

You cannot, nor would ever want to, remove the goggles. The lens was originally made with the goggles so that one could use it on an M3. The M3 has frame lines for 50, 90, and 135 mm lenses. So, the goggles reduce the magnification of the finder so that the 35 field of view fits in the 50 mm frame. The rangefinder patch is similarly visually reduced in size. I mostly mounted the 35 on my M4, M6, and later M9 and M-P mainly because I wear eyeglasses and it is difficult to see the far edges of the finder with them on. The smaller rangefinder patch does make it a bit more difficult to nail focus, especially with the higher requirements of the digital era. Removing the goggles is a non-starter: the 50 frame would still come on, you could not focus properly anymore. The lens is really nice. At f/2 the contrast is lower and the 'glow' is very nice, close it to f/2.8 and the contrast increases quite a lot.

The 135 goggles bring up the 90 mm frame, the rangefinder patch is enlarged too. Quite amazing on an M3; helpful on other Ms. Those are also non-removable. I have recently used this lens on my newly acquired SL2 and results are great, and the contraction is funny to look at!
