alan mcfall Posted August 1, 2022 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2022 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Not sure why this exists. Maybe an attempt to replace a lost lens cell, or achieve an alternate focal length. Marumi is a well known, mostly filters, optical company. Originating as Yorishima Optical but taking the Marumi name in 1952. I am not familiar with their lenses, but doubt if this is a 19mm lens. Doesn't seem to fit the cavity too well, does it even focus? The early pin release 11 0'clock lens should not be on a model III with slow speed dial. Maybe someone can advise about early Marumi lenses, as likely just a one-off experiment. Welcome, dear visitor! Anbaric Posted August 1, 2022 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2022 (edited) Isn't that just a 19mm filter (thread size rather than focal length), which would fit the Elmar? 1B would be a skylight. Here's a similar UV: https://www.amazon.com/Marumi-Filter-Camera-Protectionion-103299/dp/B00BLZ67P0 Leitz used to make filters in this size, which (unlike the more familiar A36 accessories) have the advantage of leaving the aperture tab accessible. roydonian Posted August 1, 2022 Share #3 Posted August 1, 2022 According to Marumi's website, the company specialises in filters. The history section of its website makes no mention of the company ever having been a lens manufacturer.
alan mcfall Posted August 1, 2022 Author Share #4 Posted August 1, 2022 My mistake, clearly a filter.
earleygallery Posted August 1, 2022 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2022 It says the filter type - 1B. Unscrew it and you will discover a Leica Elmar underneath!
Junebat Posted August 9, 2022 Share #6 Posted August 9, 2022 Or just leave it on there and keep your little Elmar safe! (Though I think Skylight filters have a slight warm cast that may make it less nice than a UV filter for color films).
