SD card retention - is my M8 broken?

I have a quick question for my M8-owning brethren out there.

I've been experiencing anomalous behaviors listed below, and was wondering if my cards were correctly making contact. Sure enough, the card does "click" into the slot, but then there is no retention mechanism. You can pull the card directly out without pushing it in to get it to spring back out.

Is my camera broken?

Symptoms:

1) Occasionally will not replay images already recorded on the card. Acts like the card is full for new recording.

2) Lost all images once.

3) Occasionally shows cards as locked which are not locked.

Other information:

1) Sandisk and Kingston 2GB cards, both on the approved list and purchased from reputable, in-store vendors.

2) Cards formatted in camera before use.

Thank you for seeing if you have similar issues before I go without my camera for many months for a return trip to Solms.

Eric

As far as sd card retention, there is very little friction. The mechanism in the connector only helps push the card up to make it easier to grasp for those without fingernails. This works the same as the conectors in about half a dozen sd card sockets in various devices I own.

As for the other stuff, I would worry if it happens across a couple of differnt approved cards that have been formatted in-camers and NOT WRITTEN to by any other devices since the format. That includes renaming files by computer while the files are on the card.
