Lens without serial number?

I have an Elmar 5cm 3.5 collapsible which came attached to a IIIc 458417 (1949), but I can't find a serial number anywhere. The 1958 Elmar 5 cm 2.8 collapsible I also have has its serial number on the front face. Is it unusual for a lens not to have a serial number?

It might be on the black ring protruding from the lens, closest to the front element. Look at the place adjacent to the gap between 'Elmar' and 'f=5 cm'.

Thank you I've found it in that location - it was 746272, i.e. 1949.

If the photo was in focus you would have accidentally took a picture of the serials number.

I know it was there; I saw the number but it was too blurred to read.
