Julius Bjornsson Posted September 14, 2007 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just a series of three photos of three houses I by accident stumbled upon during the last week. They just need the hobbits coming out or going in. Have a nice weekend.

dan_drabek Posted September 14, 2007 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2007 Hobbits indeed. Are these places still lived in? What is their story? DD

Julius Bjornsson Posted September 15, 2007 Author Share #5 Posted September 15, 2007 Thanks for the good comments. These are all taken in Iceland, the first two not far from Reykjavik, and they are probably old storage huts for potatoes and such. You know this was the only way to store vegetables and potatoes away from the frost. The thick earth and stone walls kept the frost out, and they were also cool in the summer. The first one hasn´t been used for years, as you can see the door is missing, the second one is still in use, and the third photo is from a place where people have recreated a farm from the 8th century, i.e. this is a house from a 1000 years ago, this is how people lived then. The small one with the wooden front is a church or prayer house from the same period. Glad you liked them. JKB

Chuckcars Posted September 16, 2007 Share #7 Posted September 16, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Nice series. Last one is the best, color intensity, composition and clarity. Naw, that's not true, they are all good. I wouldn't want to live in the first one, though.
Julius Bjornsson Posted September 16, 2007 Author Share #8 Posted September 16, 2007 Nice series. Last one is the best, color intensity, composition and clarity. Naw, that's not true, they are all good. I wouldn't want to live in the first one, though. You would not want to live in any of them, no windows, no central heating, etc. But thanks for the nice comments.
