Unfortunately someone put up some kind of screen that hides the gap between the old and newer building as well as the SPILLERS name on the lower connecting building... Now that is curious to see, pegelli. Do you mind my asking when this photpgraph was taken? I would be interested it working out some sort of timeline relating to your photograph along with some of my own snaps from the same general area. I'm guessing it was almost certainly taken prior to January this year because the building to the left (as we look) of the Millennium Mills was the Hovis flour mill but this had been knocked down by the time I took my snap shown above which was shot on the 19th January 2024. On my snap there is no such screen. On that same day the S.S. Robin - seen here to the left (port?) of the Trinity Lightship 93 - was no longer moored in the Royal Victoria Dock because by that time she had been moved down (slightly) south to Trinity Wharf. Here's a few throwaway snaps just for the sake of comparison. First, taken 19th Jan 2024, is also from the footbridge showing neither screen, steamship nor Hovis mill; Welcome, dear visitor! Second was taken eight days earlier (11th Jan) down at Trinity Wharf showing the S.S. Robin in a slightly incongruous setting! And, just for fun, here's a snap taken on the 28th June 2022 with Robin for'ard of '93' alongside the Millennium Mills when the old Hovis flour mill - seen just beyond the Millennium Mills - was still standing; the 'plane has just taken off from London City Airport whose runway lies on-axis with the quayside; Philip. EDIT : Kit was M-D Typ-262 with 28mm Elmarit asph & Yellow Filter / M Monochrom with 50mm f1.5 Summarit & Yellow Filter / M Monochrom with 28mm Elmarit & Yellow Filter. pippy Posted April 20, 2024 Share #122 Posted April 20, 2024 (edited) OOPS!! Having just looked through the DNG files from the 19th January to confirm which cameras / lenses were used for the images posted above I have realised that the kit captioned in post #119 was incorrect and should have stated 'M Monochrom with 28 Elmarit asph & Orange Filter' instead of 'M-D Typ-262 with 35mm Summilux & Circ Pola.' and in post #120 the first image was shot with the M-D but with the 35mm Summilux & Circ. Pola and not the Elmarit. / Yellow. Not that it matters too much but I thought it best to correct the information written earlier. Apologies! Philip. My pleasure pippy, the photo I posted was taken ~10 years ago (oktober 11, 2014) when I visited London with a couple of photo friends. The reason to process and post this one was the one you posted above which made me remember this "sleeper" on my hard drive that deserved to be worked on and shown here.

Yes, a mix of Classical Revival and Italianate from the same period, but notable that the styles were thought to be appropriate to the buildings' functions. One could always (usually) recognize a bank or public building from a commercial establishment. This changes in the 50's as in the example you've shown in the next photo #129, where the design becomes more universal. It could be a government building or a professional office building or even a retail establishment.
