Jolly Roger Posted July 1, 2022 Share #1 Posted July 1, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have just received my Monochrom back from Advanced Camera Services who are in Thetford U.K They have removed the corroded sensor glass and replaced it, and I now have a fully functioning M Monochrom still with the C.C.D Sensor. Service throught was perfect and turnaround was only two weeks and I cannot recommend them too much, the body came back with rangefinder, speeds, light meter etc all checked and recallibrated if necessary. It is not cheap at £1000 but if it is what needs to happen then they can do it. Regards Roger 3
Advertisement Posted July 1, 2022 Posted July 1, 2022 Hi Jolly Roger, Take a look here M Monochrom sensor glass replacement. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pippy Posted July 1, 2022 Share #2 Posted July 1, 2022 (edited) Hi, Roger, and welcome to the Forum! Great to hear that it's possible to have the sensor cover-glass replaced competently by a company here in the UK. £1,000 might seem a lot of money - beacuse it is! - but to keep an M Monochrom alive were it to develop corrosion? Well worth the price. I wish you Best of Snapping with your rejuvenated camera and please do post some images in the relevant threads if you have the incination! Philip. PeterMM1 Posted February 9, 2023 Share #4 Posted February 9, 2023 Hi all, I haven't been here for a while and I have not used my MM1 Monochrom for a while also. I noticed some sensor corrosion a few years ago and it wasn't very bad, just a couple of very small spots but it has since progressed and it now almost unusable. Fortunately I have a MM246 Monochrom but I would like to repair my CCD Monochrom. Is Advance Camera still providing this service and how successful have they been? Thanks! I'm still waiting for the day to come when my MM needs this, Price is justified IMO, I want to keep the MM1 and not upgrade to a newer Monochrom, really love the look and 18MP is more than enough. PeterMM1 Posted February 17, 2023 Share #6 Posted February 17, 2023 (edited) Well after about 2 years from my first inquiry about this repair, I am on course to have this done to my MM1 finally. When I inquired previously they were not prepared to accept repairs on the MM1, fortunately there are ready now. I called Neil at Advanced Camera this morning and will shortly be sending it over to him....fingers crossed that all goes well.... I will send them an inquiry. I'd rather not have to ship it over to the UK.
PeterMM1 Posted February 20, 2023 Share #9 Posted February 20, 2023 ......so just to be clear about the MM1....It is considered an M9 but KolariVision charges an additional $500 USD (because I have a Monochrom) bringing the total to $1500 USD not $999. Advanced Camera quoted me a price of 1000 pounds ( about $1200 USD) but I'll have to take into account the price of shipping..... Decisions, Decisions... leica5 Posted March 1, 2023 Share #11 Posted March 1, 2023 Kolari vision quoted me a price of $2000 to replace to replace M9 sensor due to corrosion as i was having only one half the image on screen.
PeterMM1 Posted March 2, 2023 Share #12 Posted March 2, 2023 I am located in the US/ North Carolina.I decided on Advanced Camera in the UK after talking to David on the phone. My MM1 was delivered to the UK yesterday. The price quoted to fix the corrosion was 1000 english pounds....currently $1194 USD with the conversion. I used www.pirateship.com to ship and the insurance and the shipping cost was only $81 USD...extremely fair considering the price that UPS and FEDEX quoted me. Hopefully if all goes well I plan on selling my MM246 and using the MM1 exclusively along with my M10. I will post an update...
