Advertisement Posted September 14, 2007 Posted September 14, 2007 Hi smenon, Take a look here Digilux3. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
stunsworth Posted September 14, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted September 14, 2007 Hi, welcome to the forum. For the lens I'd expect somewhere between 200 and 300 Euros. Digilux 3 I have no idea.
dugby Posted September 14, 2007 Share #3  Posted September 14, 2007 Welcome to the LUF-wafflers  I suggest "ebay dot com" will be a better place to assess the the price information you are seeking.
ptomsu Posted September 14, 2007 Share #4  Posted September 14, 2007 I have just bought a Digilux3 with standard 14-50 zoom and I am overwhelmed.  I was very sceptical after using an E-1 for several years, which I sold 2 years ago, to get a D2X, later a DMR and finally my loved M8. Actually bought the Digilux3 only because I got the special rebate offer from Leica, when you can verify you have bought so much Leica gear the last years (which I have).  Now to make the story short. I was never happy with the E-1, due to several reasons (not the glass), but the Digilux3 is just perfect.  Perfect RAW files Perfect colours Perfect WB Fast enough AF Easy to understand menu  .....  I could keep writing like that :-)  I would not say it is better than a D2X (not the same concept of course), or as the DMR, definitely not as crisp and sharp as the M8 - BUT  I like to use it very much, it handles nicely, is very quiet (my feeling quieter as the M8) and the results need NO change. I think this is mainly due to the superb LifeMOS sensor and to the 4/3 concept paired with Leica Lens know how - just my 5c.  And the price is much more attractive than any other combination from Leica or if you like to get similar quality from another vendor.  My advice - go for it, you will never regret! spylaw4 Posted September 14, 2007 Share #5  Posted September 14, 2007 Welcome to the Forum.  Funnily enough your R lens will (with an appropriate adapter) fit on the Digilux 3. From what I've seen here the results are excellent. Do you have to sell to finance the purchase? You could also consider the cheaper Panasonic DMC-L1 which uses the same lens and in the UK I've seen it new for about £700 (Jacobs).
cwf Posted September 14, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted September 14, 2007 The Leica "loyal customer" rebate still appears on the Leica website: Â http://www.leica-camera.us/news/owners/ Â When I just looked, the R4 was a qualifying product, along with many others, for the discount. Â I gather that the discount varies by country. In the U.S. it is $700. Worth looking into, I would think.
goodbokeh Posted September 15, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted September 15, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just received my Digilux 3 a week ago and I used the $699 Leica loyalty certificate. It is a very well built camera with beautiful lens and I'm having fun using it! For now I am going to use JPEGs for ease of use. The setting I like best (so far) is the standard film mode saved as "My Film 1" with the sharpness turned up two clicks and contrast up one. The film speed is usually set on auto which will vary the ISO between 100-400. Â In addition to the D3, for $130 I picked up a mark 1 Olympus 40-150mm f/3.5-4.5 zoom from Cameta Camera (via Amazon). It is plain Jane in appearance but very well built and tack sharp! I strongly recommend this lens as a complement to the Leica D 14-50mm, at the very least until the Leica D 50-150 f/3.5-5.6 OIS arrives sometime in 2008. karlitos Posted September 15, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted September 15, 2007 I will echo all of the positive's above. I picked up the camera very early in it's release and it was good then but it is spot on now since the FW update. What I particularly like is that I have to do very little work with the RAWs, the less work I do the happier I am:) Have also used quite a few R optics with some excellent results. Â Karlitos. goodbokeh Posted September 16, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted September 16, 2007 Be sure to download the version 2 firmware off of the Leica site. It is easy to do and provides a lot of nice improvements.
