Jskywalker Posted June 21, 2022 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2022 Advertisement (gone after registration) My first Leica (a long post). In May 2022, I was shopping for a compact that can accompany me for my weekly walk. I came across an X2, the price was reasonable, but sadly, the owner did not disclose everything and I didn't check properly. There's a visible dust on the sensor and the battery clip is missing 😖. I had to look for a 3rd party to repair it because Leica doesn't want to repair it as this model is already end of life. Luckily, the 3rd party did a great job. The X2 came back good as new. The repairer told me that dust gets in due to the movement of the lens. I had since bought a tube with filter and sort of seal it. I'm very please with the landscape and building images when I set it to "Vivid". I'm lazy 😅 and doesn't like to do post processing... But I realised that the skin tone in Vivid is too red or brown. How do I correct it in camera ? Should I use "Standard" instead when taking people ? How should I tweak the settings for taking people ?
Advertisement Posted June 21, 2022 Posted June 21, 2022 Hi Jskywalker, Take a look here Leica X jpg settings for Skin Tone. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted June 21, 2022 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2022 I fear that if you do not process the image you are stuck with the look some engineer liked and translated in firmware. You could use a more subdued jpg setting or use a simple postprocessing program like ON1 to tweak your photographs. ( well, it does allow extended processing but it can be used with presets) it really is no use to have a camera that can produce high-level photographs and throw away more than half its potential. Even something like Snapseed on an iPad could solve your problem with very little effort.

Why spend money repairing an old camera and miss out on its considerable potent?

Learning (via You Tube demos) how to use a basic post processing package such as Photoshop Elements could optimise your images and realise the camera's full imaging potential. You're likely missing out on a lot of the camera's imaging potential if you do not explore post processing.
Jskywalker Posted June 26, 2022 Author Share #5 Posted June 26, 2022 Thanks all for your suggestions. I bought the camera 2nd hand and it doesn't come with any software. I had since downloaded Darktable. Am figuring how to use it to edit DNG.
