hansvons, your experience is exactly why some of us are hoping Leica will produce a smaller and lighter version of this camera as an option for those who want a travel camera body (now that the CL is OBS); I’ll be using it with m glass.

Yes. Would like to see that too. But I fear it won't happen, too close to the M.

But what I can see is an S5-like SL that is the video-centric version of a Leica with a 24 MP sensor, not rivalling the M11. SL3 for mirrorless photography resolving 60MP, SL-Video 24MP/6K in a more compact body like the S5, and M11 for the purists - all, of course, fully M compatible. Ok. One only can dream.

Do you really think so ?

The M is constrained since the design (physical size, controls etc.) has to look and feel like the M3. I rather like that the M follows this formula and may want to own one myself. But what I was suggesting is something other than the M that has an EVF, is lighter, smaller, has fewer pixels and is less expensive.

Now I'm contemplating getting a 50mm M, but I think that will be a Summicron Mk2 or Mk3 (or perhaps the Zeiss Sonnar? Choices, choices ...)

The Sonnar is a very unusual lens. You should be warned that it's terrible up-close, not sure if that would be an issue for you. There's a reason why it only focuses to 1m. I use the Planar 50/2.0, which is very sharp and flare-proof. Quite similar to the SL lenses in that way. The older Summicrons are very similar to the R Summicrons.

Which doesn’t take away the the S5 is a fantastic stills camera as well. Maybe this S3 should be a Panaleica. S5 based, button cull, Leica Ui, Leica colour tweak, Leica style body. Quite yummy, I would say.

Hello folks,

I am a bit unhappy with my current camera setup. My M-P 240 does a pretty good job, but somehow doesn't knock my socks off. I've done all my freelance work with the M and all my professional jobs with a Nikon DSLR.

I'm getting more and more annoyed by not being able to fully concentrate on one camera, because I always have to switch back and forth between the systems. In the future, I will shoot my freelance work more often in analog, which is why the M-P will lose importance there as well.

Therefore, I am now considering selling my MP and the Nikon to switch to a Leica SL2-S system with M-Lens adapter.

I hope to be able to carry out all my photographic activities with one and the same camera. The price I have to pay for this would be the loss of an M.

What do you think? Would you make a similar decision, or would you recommend that I keep the M? It is a special camera and I had been saving for it for a long time.

I would appreciate your opinions!

I've in exactly same situation. It took me some time to make a decision, but than I sold all my Nikon stuff and M-P, kept M lenses though.
Bought SL, after some years upgraded to SL2. Added 24-90 SL and number og great Sigma ART lenses (and 85/1.4 Zeiss Milvus )
Couldn't be happier.  Best decision I ever made!
PS. Of course - if you can afford also to have M camera...why not? 😁

SL2-s will knock your socks off just with the viewfinder.  Then add all the other amazing features.  I enjoyed my two mp 240’s but sl2 and sl2-s are in another league.  Similar size.  Amazing working with m lenses also.

I’d always want to have one M camera as well but if I can only have one, it would be sl2-s.  Move ahead with confidence.

Agree completely. My SL2-S is GREAT! Still love my M analogs, but for a professional shoot SL2-S delivers.
